Total gut, hardwood in living/dining, colored tile in kitchen?

I am helping my mother remodel her house. She decided on a light oak in the dining & living but would like a tile in the kitchen. She spills a lot of water on the kitchen floors & cooks a lot. So I showed her some nice travertine & our designer recommended modern raw concrete large format tile which actually looked great but too modern and cold for her she says. She wants colored tile, specifically some blue in it. Hmmm.

Since we are gutting the floors, the hardwood and tile will have a seamless look. We are leaning on some Cle Cement Hexagonal clip tile in white & blue, something like this. The hex clip tile can be turned to make different patterns, something else still undecided about. Do you think this would work next to the hardwood and white shaker cabinets. She wants that mostly modern white kitchen, just not too modern or stark. I am including 2 pics of the floors we are leaning towards. Or any other suggestions on the tile? Thanks!
