Hardwood floors or tile in a kitchen?

I want hardwood and hubby wants tile. This is a project for next year so we have a while to bring our minds together, lol!

The hardwood floors would be installed in the great room (goodbye carpet!), and the foyer and dining room. I also want the hardwood floors to continue in our kitchen, breakfast room, little hallway and laundry room so the look will be consistent. I'm not totally against tile, but I would prefer hardwood floors.

Hubby says you should never put hardwood floors in a kitchen in case the dishwasher leaks, sink leaks, etc. I can see having tile in a laundry room, but my laundry room is right off the breakfast room.

Have any of you had any problems with hardwood floors in a kitchen?
