Kordes Roses in zone 5a
Comments (11)Yes, Cream Veranda and Apricot Vigorosa both are very healthy and bloom all season. I may never know if my Apricot Vigorosa is the correct cultivar. Got it many years ago thru Northland Roses. It has floribunda growth with flower shape of Cream Veranda and in bloom all season. Glorious! I love red so I have Kardinal Kolorscape, Milano and Black Forest.but they don't have those english style blooms. They are in constant bloom with dark true red blooms. KK's are my favorite because japanese beetles don't bother them (no scent). Then there is Plum Perfect and Desmond Tutu they have fuller flowers and have been very good so far. Got Solero and Ping Lims Yellow Brick Road in spring but are too new comment on. Very nice full english style blooms. Love Innocencia but only a semi double. I had all the fairy tales at one time and all where healthy and large but don't bloom as much as the floribundas. I slowly switched over thru the years. With a short season it worked for me. Kordes roses coming this year are, Flamingo Kolorscape Jolie Veranda Polar Escape Flamenco Rosita Rose of Hope and Figi All of my roses are own root and no spray. Most will spot in first year but very clean there after or I don't keep them. This post was edited by pattyw5 on Wed, Dec 31, 14 at 16:31...See MoreFirst Crush rose by Kordes at my local Lowes
Comments (95)Right now it is in a two gallon pot. I would not plant it in anything bigger than a 3 gallon for the moment. Don't spend a lot of money. Go to a local nursery and ask them if they would sell you a used 3 gallon pot (one of the black plastic pots) as you are just going to use it for a short time. Should not cost more than a few dollars. I think Miracle-Gro is OK potting soil. There are other choices which have more compost or are organic. If it is the Miracle-Gro with the fertilizer already in the soil don't add any other fertilizer for the moment. You will know the roots are recovering as it puts out new top growth. You should see significant growth in the next 3-4 weeks. If you do not have a good way to overwinter a pot then it would be wise to put the rose in the ground by the first of August so it can put down more roots and acclimate to your conditions before winter sets in. Good luck!...See MoreKordes in NJ big boxes
Comments (46)Two days ago, at same HD (Union, NJ) referenced above: supply on hand of KORfizzlem (LF) INCREASED 3-fold over what I observed 8 days earlier. They now filled an entire table outside front gate to garden center. Also: I almost missed this - inside the gates, behind a mass of KO's, were about 20 containers of Innocencia (Vigorosa). Substantial bushes w/many canes each. Pots 5.7 litres, I recollect. $20. Grown by Hopewell Nursery (NJ). Healthy, shiny foliage (in a Kordes x Noack sort of way). Curious, I asked if this grower's rep was on site. I was told the "supplier from Hopewell" was there. I had previously asked him if he had anything to do with supplying roses to the store, and he told me: "No; we do the trees and shrubs" (!) When I approached him again, he laughed and said he forgot about the roses I saw. Unclear if he was an intermediary, or a Hopewell employee. Possibly the former. I asked if HD would receive other Kordes roses from Hopewell this year. He said "Probably not; we did it as a test" But then he said Hopewell grew other Kordes roses, but he wouldn't bring them to HD "now" since "Ivy Acres already brought so many roses to the store; they don't need more"....See MoreDon't you wish Kordes had a retail website like Austin does?
Comments (45)jjpeace, and anyone interested my first 3 Pomponella from Palatine where huge for my zone also. Buy the 3rd year many thick canes would reach over the top of my head ( 5'5" ) then fountain out making her anywhere from 8 to 12 feet across. The grafts eventually rotted out. She had gone own root so I was able to save a good hunk of her own root and replanted else where. She's making a come back as an own root. I also planted a new one from Palatine just in case. hcarnevale, I really miss those beautiful blooms. Yours is gorgeous. Bonnie I don't think I've ever seen a warm zone photo of Pomponella but I have visions of a disappearing home....See MoreMoses, Pittsburgh, W. PA., zone 5/6, USA
