It sounds like you are considering black. You don’t need anyone’s permission. Black microfiber sounds like a great idea.

I think the only type of stain a black sofa would show easily would be bleach... It might show dirt and dust more, but not stains.

Or you could look into a used dark leather couch. They do stop smelling after a while and soften up (I have a leather sofa that's probably 30+ years old and it doesn't smell like anything and is much more supple than a new leather couch). But if you don't want more leather, that's totally cool. The black should be fine.

Navy might look good.

Sorry but microfiber can look pretty awful if you get lost of spills and grease IMO a leather sofa belongs in a family room and I have no ide why yours smells I have good italian leather furniture everywhere in my house and I smell nothing. As for comfort that has nothing to do with leather only the construction, if it is leather everyhere including the back it breathes and wrms to your body in less than 10 sec.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I am one of those people who finds the very slight (subtle) natural smell of leather unpleasant up close.
