With young kids, you want to be careful with any treatments that have cords. Any cordless product is a great choice. Top down, bottom up...........another great option. Roller/solar shades are nice and neat..........the nice kind, not the big box store ones. There are so many fabric/textile choices for these too and a good price point.

Thanks for all the suggestions. @patricia colwell consulting, just leaving it down is a likely option. I can always pull out the kitchen tongs for the few times I need to operate it lol. @jennifer hogan, film is an option to consider. @beverlyfladesigner, believe me, that discussion’s been had. I agree with you, but I’m just so glad to get all that stuff off my kitchen island, I’ll basically let him have this in whatever position he wants!:) FYI, it took seven years to get it out of the kitchen!!!! @sammy, that’s a good idea, but I like clean light into the room. @smcf03, I hadn’t thought about a remote, I’ll check that out. I appreciate everyone’s help.

I would say roller shades can be warm. The composition of our roller shades help maintain the warmth in your house; these can also protect you from sunlight and sun heat during the day. So, I would say you can add blackout shades for privacy and on top you can have light filtering shades. Blackout is more for privacy, whereas light filtering is for letting the sun enter. Post some pictures of the room. The curtains can be different styles in a room but not mixed solid and prints. You could do panels on the windows and roman shades on the french doors
