What is the rule of thumb when looking at paint swatches
Comments (4)Color is nothing more than reflected light, and our perception of the parts of the spectrum reflected. So the answer to your question is, there isn't any way to tell until you see a big patch of it on the wall in the light conditions that exist in that space. Little paint chips are never enough, as you already know! So you have to bring home a handful in a range of each kind of color you're considering, and use those to eliminate and narrow down the options. In your other thread, I advised priming out any strong existing wall color before you test. A 2 x 3 piece of foam core with two coats of your test paint on it can be moved around the room to different walls at different times of day, held high and low on the wall, tucked in behind existing pictures or curtains, held up to existing woodwork - it's really the best way to be sure....See MoreBuilding cost rule of thumb in existing neighborhood
Comments (34)There is just so much money in that roof and that rear elevation. I am strongly of the opinion that people too often build houses for the outside and yet buy houses for the inside. It is important to remember that you don't live on your roof...complicated roof lines add incredible expenses for no real living space. Bumpouts can do the same thing, while they can be needed to break up the space on the front of a house, rarely are they needed in the back of a house. These things are simply a way for you to take money out of your pocket and put it into the builders. Is this something from a design/build firm or an architect? I am not trying to change your mind about your home but I would like to show you what a large efficiently designed home looks like. I am not claiming this is the most efficient build ever and there are things I would personally change but it is bigger than yours and I would be absolutely floored if it costs even 2/3 of yours. Here is a link to the plan. See how simple the roof is, and notice that the back tries to maintain a straight line across....See MoreMecardonia - thumbs up or down?
Comments (10)June, I think I have the same plant but since I did not keep the label I don't know for sure. It sounds familiar the gold dust part of the name and mine is also a proven winners with lots of tiny yellow blooms. If it is I got it last year full with blooms and kept it in a pot, gets water every day and morning sun afternoon shade, it is starting to bloom again after trimmed it a little bit. It is the first pot on the bottom of the picture Silvia...See MoreHelp my house not stick out like a sore thumb!
Comments (21)Other people may use landscape specific programs to create mock-up pictures. I'm using Microsoft Paint. I like it because it is simple but versatile. If one knows the basic elements of drawing and painting, one can accomplish the same things one can accomplish with papers, pencils, brushes and paint ... and more because it has the cut and paste feature. While it is on many computers, one cannot use it very well unless one has touchscreen capabilities and a stylus. Yet without that, many of the features will be useful. All of the tools are well explained in the help menu. The cut and paste feature is what allows one to cut photos apart and reassemble their pieces as a panorama (if they are taken from the same camera viewpoint.) The picture can either be opened in the Paint program, or it can be grabbed off of the GardenWeb forum with the copy feature and pasted into the open Paint window. (Click on the picture first to copy the enlarged version instead of the shrunken version that shows on the forum.)...See MoreBeth H. :
