Pls vote: final pix & picks granite for creamy white kitchen
Comments (22)Thank you all for your feedback. I was really nervous but "bit the bullet" and purchased 4 slabs of the River yesterday. Had 24 to cancel and managed to get DH out to the yard to look at it today. He liked it ( b/c we'd never seen anything like it) but still favors the Typhoon Bordeaux I think. I think the River is gorgeous, but it does really change the tone of the kitchen. With a mass of white cabinets and that granite which is ivory with lots of lighter tone movement, it really does make the kitchen cool rather than warm. Perhaps in hot Florida that's a good thing? Gives it a cool serene fell I hope. On the otherhand, might it seem washed out? DH is now wondering if we should consider a dark stain on the cabinets in stead of painted creamy white as we'd always discussed. Does the granite now dictate? Thanks, in advance for further feedback....See MorePicking granite for white cabinets / Carrara backsplash
Comments (6)i live in a victorian in boston. and i'm just wrapping up a renovation. white shakers cabs, stainless appliances, white subway tile. i always wanted black counters. but fell in love with marble. i went to gerrity stone, and now i have wicked white on the island and honed AB on the perimeter. i couldn't be happier. and i also think the WW would look good throughout. as would the AB...See Morehelp picking backsplash 'accent' -crimson cabinet, white granite
Comments (7)Hmm. I really like the glass on the right with the granite and cabinets. It's the marble that needs to go. I agree with RMS that if you keep the marble, stick with the one shape, and the shape that goes with the accent. I don't suppose you could get that accent tile in just the light shade and use that as the field tile with the accent running through the middle could you? I just don't think the marble agrees with the granite I guess, but definitely not in two shapes. You need it to be more neutral....See MorePicking granite for white cabinets
Comments (2)I have the same situation and just posted my first Q about it, in fact (wood floor over slate dilemma). In my case, not only is there the potential issue of different woods, but, in addition, I can't lay wood on my stone floor without creating a two inch step up to my dining room - unless I do a very costly demolition job on the stone. Anyway, my idea for cabinet color and granite is very similar to yours. In addition to the creamy cabinets, I'm also considering a darker cherry stained island (not 100% sure of this yet). However, if wood floors are a no go, I am thinking about doing the giallo veneziano, santa cecelia or something similar, on both the perimeter and the island. I think that would pull everything (both cabinets and floors) together and makes for a very nice tone on tone look. I saw a couple of similar kltchens in a magazine recently that I'm using for inspiration ( the most frustrating thing about those magazines, though, is when you have a photo of a gorgeous granite and the description reads "granite" rather than revealing which one - don't you hate that?). Anyway, the photos showed the floor tiles in medium beige, not too light or too dark. Cabinets were to the ceiling, so really very little dry wall was exposed, but what there was was done either in a bone (the darker cream cabinets with brown glaze) or taupe (the lighter cream) color, so both continued on with the tone on tone theme, here. Backsplashes were very close to the color of the cabinets in both cases, with or without accents (mosaic tile for ex.) under the hood. Hope this helps - it sounds like we are headed in similar directions....See More- 5 years ago
