Picking granite for white cabinets

I had a very hard time choosing granite for my ivory cabinets and SS appliances. I did not want a black and white kitchen. I think I am going to choose Giallo Veniziano. I wanted hardwood floors, but I am going with tile flooring because I have hardwood in my living room and dining room that are light and I did not want to put two different woods together. I would have like a darker wood for the kitchen.If anyone knows the Veniziano stone, maybe you can give me some idea as to what color tile (light or dark)and what color paint for the walls I should go with and do you think that color stone is a good contrast with the creamy white cabinets. Help!!!

I think I have Giallo Veniziano in my master bath - at least that's what others have told me. I was fretting about wall color and ended up hiring a designer who helped me pick SW Softened Green. (not sure if I would use that in a kitchen - but maybe...) Also, below is a pic of my floor tile. I really like it - but again don't know exactly what it is. They are 20inch porcelain tiles from Master Tile. Hope this gives you an idea of how it might look in your kitchen!

I have the same situation and just posted my first Q about it, in fact (wood floor over slate dilemma). In my case, not only is there the potential issue of different woods, but, in addition, I can't lay wood on my stone floor without creating a two inch step up to my dining room - unless I do a very costly demolition job on the stone.

Anyway, my idea for cabinet color and granite is very similar to yours. In addition to the creamy cabinets, I'm also considering a darker cherry stained island (not 100% sure of this yet). However, if wood floors are a no go, I am thinking about doing the giallo veneziano, santa cecelia or something similar, on both the perimeter and the island. I think that would pull everything (both cabinets and floors) together and makes for a very nice tone on tone look. I saw a couple of similar kltchens in a magazine recently that I'm using for inspiration ( the most frustrating thing about those magazines, though, is when you have a photo of a gorgeous granite and the description reads "granite" rather than revealing which one - don't you hate that?). Anyway, the photos showed the floor tiles in medium beige, not too light or too dark. Cabinets were to the ceiling, so really very little dry wall was exposed, but what there was was done either in a bone (the darker cream cabinets with brown glaze) or taupe (the lighter cream) color, so both continued on with the tone on tone theme, here. Backsplashes were very close to the color of the cabinets in both cases, with or without accents (mosaic tile for ex.) under the hood.

Hope this helps - it sounds like we are headed in similar directions.

I think you've got a great place to start, very large and open. There's not much room for a microwave over the stovetop though? Anyway, can you paint the walls more of a greige that is so popular, somewhere between the gray you wanted, but still pickup the beige tones in the granite. Breezy's cabinets are BM Simply white, which looks really nice. All the best on your reno!

I think you need to take a trip to the home improvement store and check out the stain color options and see if there's something you like there. I googled the Minwax chart for oak and came up with two that might suit you, Provincial and Special Walnut. Or Chestnut from the gel stain list: There are lots of options that would go nicely with your granite and your floors. About half way through the life of our last cabinets (they were about 40 years old at tear-out), I refinished them with a stain and gave them a coat of polyurthane. It came out very well.

I agree, don't put quartz on old cabinets. You will not recoup your investment. Leave it as is, adjust the price accordingly and save your money for you new home. You cannot know that a new owner will paint the cabinets white, or any other color. Maybe they prefer the natural look of wood. You cabinets look to be in good shape, you don't say what your counters are but a buyer can change the counters to something they like if they so choose. Make sure the house is freshly painted in light neutrals, super clean everything and get rid of any clutter. Make sure the outside is inviting, trimmed shrubs, plant flowers, etc. Just make sure everything is bright, clean and looks well maintained.

I've seen enough photos on here of kitchens with white cabinets, black countertops, and similar wall color to know that the black granite will look good. Just not sure it would give the look I'm going for....It's not a beach house, but I have been using beach inspired colors. Would the black still work? Or is going to come off as a farmhouse kitchen? While I know the lighter granite is light and airy, I just haven't been able to find a "white" enough granite that I love. I would like a mostly white piece with some brown and black speckling, I don't want a lot of movement. I thought the colonial white would work, even though it's not as white as I wanted, because it pulled the sand color into the kitchen.
