That's a good question, Rita. Interestingly, a restaurant hubby and I often visit had a sign that they get their Romaine from a company that grows it hydroponically, so it's perfectly safe to eat.

I heard that here too...that it is now safe. Don't think I can buy it this soon though. Would keep thinking....are they sure? They evidently thought it was safe before ;)

I too am curious why it is always romaine. There are many other fresh greens that are not recalled

I am going to try again to grow the lettuces we like. No success before. Sprouts are not acceptable for a salad. Husband likes iceburg. I like a variety, but not sprouts.

My burning question is, why is it always Romaine lettuce that is being recalled?

Here in Canada they're still telling us to stay away from it. But now, English cucumbers have been added to the don't eat list.

What I heard said don't buy any that's grown in California. Seems like the problem stuff has been California every time. I'll still stay away from it for a while. Romaine isn't a "can't live without" for me.

Cynic, the last outbreak was from Arizona.

But this Monday, following further investigation, the CDC downgraded its warning. Romaine lettuce should be safe to sell and eat, unless it originally came from central or northern California.

Unfortunately,
most romaine lettuce is not clearly labeled with its source—so unless
you can confirm where it was grown, you should still avoid it.
