This painted kitchen doesn't work for me, but I'm not sure why
Comments (28)My cabinets were really white, but they were not a shiny laminate white. The cabinets had a baked on finish and were high end Haas, with a flat finish that was guaranteed not to yellow. The granite - Tropical Brown - has flecks of black, brown, white and gold which helped pull the colors together. The hardwood floors were supposed to be darker and more a brown tone, but that didn't happen. However, that picture was taken early-on, and the floors did darken to a nice patina. colorcrazy hit the nail on the head. I think if the ceiling in your first photo had white moulding, the cabinet would looked "married" to something instead of just being stuck on the wall. I love the kitchen in your second inspirational photo....See MoreFloor 2 be grouted tomorrow...he doesn't want to grout under cabs
Comments (11)Just a quick comment. We kept the same ceramic tiles that had been down for 40 years. We liked them and they are no longer available. We only had 24 - 12" octagons left from the original purchase. Daniel, our miracle tile guy, added the tiles for the 2 ft. of additional floor space we needed and he made it with one left over. There was some slight color mismatch between the tiles that had been down and the tiles that had been in a box, but he matched the old grout perfectly. I agree that the GC should do it now for all of the above stated reasons, but, just in case, the grout can probably be matched pretty well. Also, keep any extra tiles for later, just in case. The tiles toward the front of the picture toward the carpet are new....See MoreDH doesn't want Chrome.. but I ordered it...
Comments (22)I like brushed hardware, but not faucets as much. I have chrome main faucet and potfiller -- I wanted the clean sparkle and gleam at the sink in front of the window and against the tile splash and contrasting my honed marble. My prep sink is at the island with Cambrian Black granite and I didn't want that polished shine there, so the prep sink faucet is brushed. My pulls are brushed -- I liked that better against both the white and blue cabinets (especially the blue) but I like the polished too. So yes, at least some people do mix them....See MoreRemodeled to white kitchen, now living room doesn’t FLOW. IDEAS?
Comments (30)I would get rid of the drapes (roman shades), rug is fine, get a more modern fan, and paint the living room the same color as the kitchen. After that, the world is your oyster! (I love Beth H.'s photos...so in the future, you may want to replace some furniture pieces, etc., but for now, I think just doing those things is a start). BTW, I have an open concept kitchen/dining/living room, and it really improved the look by doing this....See Morevikster55
