Tile grout color: subway tile with hex floor grout matching
Comments (6)Should the grout be the same color? Not necessarily. Will it look weird to use a darker gray on the floor and a lighter gray in the shower? Not at all. Any recommended colors for the shower and floor tiles along these lines? I've been getting stuff at Lowe's and they carry MAPEI Warm gray for the subway tile, and silver for the hex, if you lke a darker grey for the hex. Silver is actually a medium grey, but it'll appear alot darker with the white tile. Our bathroom isn't perfectly square. I think a colored grout seam that is uneven will be really obvious(that's my understanding where you would do any flubbing). Can you grout just the seam white? Can you skip grout and caulk it? Any suggestions here? Grout everything on the floor the same color. it'll actually show up more if you try doing what you suggested. It'll literally draw attention to it. What you want to dpo is make sure that you're square to the most obvious walls from the door. Especially with the hex, it won't be quite as obvious as you think, unless it's WAY out, and then nothing you can do will hide it, even using a blending color grout. One other thing-- that joint where the floor hits the walls should be caulked, but still caulk it with a caulking that matches the grout, both color AND texture. Does anyone know what the measure is for hex tile and subway? For subway, use unsanded, and for the hex, use sanded....See MoreMatte hex on floor and shiny subway on shower walls?
Comments (13)threeapples, we bought honed hex marble tile for our floors and polished marble subway tiles. Even though it was the same stone (Calacatta marble), the honed hex for the floor was a totally different color than the subway tiles. When we started laying the floor tiles, we thought it was a mistake in our order and that the hex tiles were a different kind of marble. They weren't. According to the person who sold us the tile, honing marble can take out some of the warm tones and change the color of the marble. We ended up swapping out the honed hex floors for polished. I did not want polished floors in a bath because of the slippery issue, but we had no choice as we had already installed the polished subway tiles in the shower....See MoreWhite hex floor/subway shower grout color?
Comments (10)Thank you everyone! In that room I am going to do a light gray grout through out. I think it will hightlight the tiles. The vanity is white and I think gray grout will give the room some depth. Tinker, if you are up to it, you should show off your bathrooms, they are gorgeous! I do have a question. In the master I am doing a white marble floor w gray grout. But am thinking white grout for the shower subways as well as shower floor. It is a fancier space and I want the shower to take a backseat to the marble and other fixtures. Does that make sense?...See MoreWhite vs gray grout for white subway tiles in shower
Comments (4)I like the contrasting gray grout, but for resale (in my area - mostly 100 year old homes, HCOL) I'd definitely go with matching (white) grout (well, just a bit off white to hide dirt). While many do like the gray grout on white tile, plenty are turned off by it. I doubt many buyers would be actually turned off by white grout on white tile. Its just 'safer,' at least according to real estate agents where I live (I asked many when I was doing my master bath). And, if the tile work isn't very straight, the contrasting color will magnify that problem. With similar color grout you won't notice tile issues as much. I guess the best thing to do - if you are concerned about resale - is ask a real estate broker in your town. HTH!...See MoreHU-870157674
