Tile grout color: subway tile with hex floor grout matching
Comments (6)Should the grout be the same color? Not necessarily. Will it look weird to use a darker gray on the floor and a lighter gray in the shower? Not at all. Any recommended colors for the shower and floor tiles along these lines? I've been getting stuff at Lowe's and they carry MAPEI Warm gray for the subway tile, and silver for the hex, if you lke a darker grey for the hex. Silver is actually a medium grey, but it'll appear alot darker with the white tile. Our bathroom isn't perfectly square. I think a colored grout seam that is uneven will be really obvious(that's my understanding where you would do any flubbing). Can you grout just the seam white? Can you skip grout and caulk it? Any suggestions here? Grout everything on the floor the same color. it'll actually show up more if you try doing what you suggested. It'll literally draw attention to it. What you want to dpo is make sure that you're square to the most obvious walls from the door. Especially with the hex, it won't be quite as obvious as you think, unless it's WAY out, and then nothing you can do will hide it, even using a blending color grout. One other thing-- that joint where the floor hits the walls should be caulked, but still caulk it with a caulking that matches the grout, both color AND texture. Does anyone know what the measure is for hex tile and subway? For subway, use unsanded, and for the hex, use sanded....See MoreGrout color question - Onyx Hex & White Subway Tile
Comments (2)Yes, you can use different colored grout for the floor, but as I said in the other thread, the Platinum would work well for the hex, as well. The only other color I'd personally consider would be the Delorean Grey. Which ever one you use, though, you want to use sanded grout on that hex tile....See Morefinished period subways/hex floor shower: pics!
Comments (12)Thanks Bill, will do. Do you find ordering on-line is cheaper than ordering locally? I guess that's a difficult question depending on the area of the country where you live. I live in the deep South. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. One way or the other, I'd still check both places. since I'm recreating flooring fromm years gone by, would the unglazed hex be more realistic to the period? Absolutely. Then again if I get unglazed I would definitely have to seal it, wouldn't I? Nope. Unglazed mosaics are made of porcelian, and you don't seal porcelain. I also want to think that maybe unglazed 4" with the glazed dots or whatever it is the little tiles that go in the corners are called, would look really nice. What say you? That would look just as nice, and still be period acceptable. This is a 12x12 marble version:...See MoreGray hex on shower floor with white subway on walls?
Comments (6)FYI, we have that black and white flooring in our guest bathroom. It works well in the small space, has held up well, however, it does show every hair and speck of dirt. I've learned solid colors tend to do that versus slight patterns (our master bath has marble with slight natural veining). I'd leave the tile samples on your floor for a couple days so you know what to expect....See Moresparklebread
