Melissa this is too funny. I always try to find something nice to say about a room b/c even if it is not my style it is always quite lovely. The particular browser I use does not show words for whatever reason so I am browsing your pictures and just stumped on what was renovated. Turns out I was in the BEFORE folder!!! Ok on to the AFTER folder....LOVE that bathroom! I was really anxious to see it b/c you mention all the things I am doing carera - beadboard - etc. Turned out so cute and I really like how you did the tile on the sloped shower ceiling. What a cute space!

How quaint and you have done such a marvelous renovation throughout the house. Seriously, this is one to submit for a story in cottage magazine. Is your guest house rented or are you open to house guests? Would love to visit! LOL

this is just awesome! I have bounced back and forth from before/after 3 times...no kidding! The whole reno is just fantastic! Did you do all the work yourself or have hired guns? Did you reno before you moved in? How long did it all take you? It is amazing the before/after. You should be so proud!

y'all are so sweet -- thank you so much. I am just absolutely in love with my house, and I am SO excited to finally be in. I was fortunate enough to be able to do the renovations before I moved in. The work took 5 months. I am a general contractor, so I did the work myself. (I mean, I planned, organized, directed and managed the project -- I didn't actually install tile and cabinets and revamp electrical, etc.!) One day I hope to be able to use the slave quarters building as a study and guest space, but for now I need to rent it out to help with that nasty ole mortgage. Scottmel, that story is hysterical!!! I love your house. I'm a nola girl also, now living a few miles west of the city.

We are building a new home that is taken after the Acadian style (photo included) and we are attempting to decorate the inside to keep with the creole/nola heritage. I want to do hex in both baths. Can you tell me where you purchased yours?

I'm so excited because today, after a very long search, I finally found an antique dresser that will convert into a beautiful vanity for my guest bath. It's not easy trying to keep with a certain period when decorating.

After much searching I found some great hex tiles: check out American Universal Corp at auc-tile.com . If you call them they will give names of distributors in your area.

Their hex tiles are porcelain (glazed or unglazed) and come in a variety of sizes and colors. I just had 1 1/2" glazed installed in all 3 of our bathrooms. They are fab. HTH

HD and Lowe's doesn't have anything that I want so I'll need to go to a tile store. I was just wondering if these independent dealers are very expensive.

Another question, since I'm recreating flooring fromm years gone by, would the unglazed hex be more realistic to the period? I don't ever remember seeing a shine on my great aunt's bathroom floor. Then again if I get unglazed I would definitely have to seal it, wouldn't I? Forgive all the questions, I've just never had this much to do with ceramic or porcelain tile before.

I also want to think that maybe unglazed 4" with the glazed dots or whatever it is the little tiles that go in the corners are called, would look really nice. What say you?

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. One way or the other, I'd still check both places.

Absolutely.

Nope. Unglazed mosaics are made of porcelian, and you don't seal porcelain.
