A little worried about the seeds.. Am I being paranoid?
Comments (12)I also wonder whether they are moist enough too? 34C is rather warm especially with such an airy mix with the 50% perlite in it plus not having an airtight lid would also let any moisture you have given them escape. Is the mix evenly moist?...it needs to be wetted thoroughly but not sopping wet. If you cut an individual cling film cover for each pot attached with an elastic band this may help keep the moisture in better. When they do sprout I would be careful they don't get too drawn as the soil is far down the cups....I would cut each cup down so the soil is 1/2 inch below the tops. If they don't show in a few more days, I would be tempted to fish them out and see if they are still viable by very gently squeezing them, re-pot them if OK, maybe in a mix with less perlite and try again. Seed/seedlings do not need such a fast draining mix as older DR's. as they need the moisture around them, they can't dry out in the early stages. Hope this helps, good luck and keep us posted. Comments (26)Okay, so one of the euphorbias I got at the C&S show last week is starting to put out flowers and some new growth, and the potting medium was dry, so I lightly watered it. Anyway, this actually leads me to another point. I remember reading a few sites suggesting that you use a small amount of topsoil instead of a small amount of peat in cacti and succulent potting mix because it tends to be fairly loamy and a lot easier to re-wet than peat, which I tend to believe because peat is terrible to re-wet. However, I kind of assumed that topsoil would be too heavy for most container plants. Then again, if it's in a fairly small amount in proportion to perlite/pumice/bark and the soil is still relatively airy and fast draining, maybe not. What made me think of this again is that, when I watered the euphorbia in question, the moistened soil DID have a distinctly topsoilish smell to it, and the mix the C&S society guys have their stuff potted in seems to be fairly fast draining. Also, C&S Society, so I figured they'd know their stuff. I think you also mentioned adding clay into the mix earlier (though I'm not sure if you meant clay-based soil or clay chips/balls). Anyway, a (small) amount of topsoil seems like it could work for this, although, as I said, I'd be concerned that it'd still potential be heavy or prone to caking. Any thoughts on that?...See MoreTrespassers in my new house?! Should I be paranoid?
Comments (22)We live in a small college town, and I feel like 1/2 the town walked through our home before it was locked up! We didn't really care, except I'd rather be the one showing them around!! The builder carried the insurance, so we assumed they knew what they were doing, security wise. Our builder builds all custom homes, and I totally get that people are interested...I am a floor plan addict myself, so I understand. I did have a funny situation one day...during our build we rented a house within walking distance, so I often would walk up there on the weekend when it was quiet. It had one of those lock boxes with a key in it, so I went in and left the door unlocked. I was upstairs measuring something when I heard voices in the house. I was a little scared, as the next door neighbors weren't home and no one else was in screaming distance! :) I peered down into the foyer and saw a couple with a camera! I was like, "Hello, can I help you?" They were embarrassed, they said they had been peeking through the windows and loved my floor stain, and thought they'd try to take a pic through the window...but tried the door and it was open! Lesson learned, I always locked myself in after that!...See MoreWhen should I refinish my wood floors?
Comments (2)If you used water based finish, it only takes 2 weeks to fully cure. Oil based takes well over a month--maybe months--not sure how long, but the manufacturer;s website will tell you. If it were me, and the floors look okay now, I think I would wait until after the party as I would hate to pay for the refinish and then have something happen at the party. Even the best finish won't stand up to problem high heels, ect. I wouldn't want to be worrying about my floors at my party....See Morekim k
