but you have that space on the right so it's a moot point. that's true of the 48" vanity, but we also have a 60" vanity that does hug one side wall, and we didn't put a backsplash on that one either. The material is Ceasarstone Organic White - we had a remnant from our kitchen, 3 cm, that we used for the 60" vanity, and for the one in the picture, we used another remnant the fabricator had on hand, 2 cm. We used the 2 cm remnant for both backsplashes (3 cm is too thick for a backsplash). The sink is the Kohler Archer, which we paired with a faucet from Lowe's (Aquasource brand, which might be their house brand).

I had a lot of trouble with this decision in my self-designed bathroom. My advice is find a photo of a vanity top with a backsplash to see the difference. Pick the photo of the setup you like best and print/save it to show your contractor or tile shop or countertop fabricator exactly what you want. On the site Houzz dot com with decorating photo examples (thousands!) from designers I see that the modern designer look is not 4 inch countertop backsplash. Now I see another reason vessel sinks are so popular--they eliminate the need for the counterop backsplash/sidesplash. They want to try shifting the granite to the left, which I feel imay create a bigger problem. Then I will have a small gap on the right side that will need to be caulked at the front edge. Right now, front of granite is snug and perfect on both sides. This gap is only 3.5 " long and tapers to a snug fit as it comes forward.. The right side is an even 1/8" on the entire edge. I did measure my wall to see how square it is. It's 1/8 inch smaller across the back. My faucet is dead on center and it will be shifted 1/8" of center if they move it.. That may bug me more. I plan on posting the picture on Yelp when I write a review. As we left it - I will try to install backsplash and sidesplash and if it doesn't cover, I will contact them again for resolution. I planned on doing a three sided mosaic from the get go. My glass moasic is 3/8" thick. That leaves a little less than 1/8" before thinset. Anyone know how thick thinset is? Will it push things forward 1/8". The gap is just short of 1/2". I do appreciate the encouragement to pursue this. I will definitely address the unprofessional job. You didn’t know what you didn’t know. And that's pretty much the rule for every project where a home owner works with a professional. If the home owner knew everything, they wouldn't have to hire anybody. If the professional asks an ambiguous question, and then deliberately skips the industry-standard step of visually confirming the layout with the client, then it's inappropriate to blame the client for not communicating well. This is a question that comes up with literally every single job the fabricator does. They should know how to verify instructions. We have had all sorts of counter tops installed over the years. Every single time, the fabricator would come to the house to do precise templating. And then they'd require that either the home owner or the general contractor sign off on the template before they'd make the first cut. These processes are in place exactly to avoid this type of issue. Yes, there have on occasion been mistakes. But when that happens, the professional eats the cost or finds a way to fix things that is acceptable to all parties.
