Vanity backsplash and sidesplash

I am redoing my bathroom with a marble walk-in shower and new vanity and top. The right side of the vanity butts against a wall. After finding the slab that I want cut for the vanity top, stone cutter guy figured in a 4" high back splash and 4" high side splash.

I have looked at numerous images of bathrooms and it seems that back and side splashes are not really used anymore so I am in a dilemma as to what I should do. There will be a mirror with sconces on each side as well as a vanity light fixture over the mirror. I am going to install chair rail in the bathroom approximately 40" to 42" from the floor.

Any thoughts?
