Comments (16)Go with a tub/shower combo OR with a walk-in shower. Forget trying to have both a shower and a separate soaker tub. Don't even waste the money running plumbing for both. The space you have just isn't big enough to accommodate both unless you want to give up practically ALL of your closet space. Since your house has another bath with a tub, you don't have to have a tub in the master. (Code only requires one bathtub in a house.) Most adults would probably agree that they use the shower far more often than the tub. If you want a walk-in shower, you can certainly have one. While you can tile the shower alcove, I would recommend that you use a plexiglass door/wall on the front side instead of tiling. (See the link below) It'll feel more open and you don't really have the space to build a tile wall enclosure on the front side. Here is a design with walk-in shower for you. Note that I made the window narrower (24" instead of 36") and made the narrow end of the closet a little narrower because a walk-in shower is usually a bit wider than a standard alcove bathtub. Comments (12)I like Marcolo's idea of switching the closet and adding the cubbies! Here's that option, but I kept a small table for crafts, snacks, breakfast, etc. You said you like to watch the kids out that window, but a setee would look very nice, too. While an island is very nice (and popular) I thought I'd leave the wall (perhaps load bearing?) and make the kitchen easily accessible from both tables. And you still have a little more 'formal' feel in the big dining room. By having the French doors opening into the kitchen, you have the option of closing off the noise...but still seeing the main sink (maybe farmhouse?) and possible 'buffet area' opposite the French doors. I added the extra sink by the fridge, so you have one sink/prep area to the left of the range and another baking area on the right. The dishwasher could go by either sink (or both) but if you have one opposite the French doors, cabinet front or drawer dishwasher might be a nice option. Hope this helps and have fun with your planning :) From Kitchen plans...See MoreWasted space in my Laundry room makes me crazy!
Comments (25)Glad you were able to recreate your space. One thought on that "dead" overhead cabinet: If you drilled a 6" hole in the front of the cabinet below the rod -- halfway between the rod and the bottom of the cabinet -- that could be a great space to store used grocery bags you are saving to recycle as trash bags. You could even make that hole the center of a flower by painting petals around it -- perhaps a daisy or sunflower. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/266486502930394790/...See MoreCan't waste space - What to do about under the stairs?
Comments (65)Well, the under stairs plan is dead in the water. That wall is load bearing, and we would have to frame the opening with a beam. I don't think we are going to go that far. I am also realizing that we don't have enough counter space or prep space. I'm considering changing that double patio door to a tall window and single patio door. Then I can wrap around that corner and get space for countertop appliances that desperately need to be near the sink....See MoreJoy
