Help! Baby Shower Gift etiquette?
Comments (6)I too, have a "jane" in the family. Several aactually. Just know that whatever you decide, she will probably feel negatively about it. She sounds kinda jealous. If you bring all the gifts at once, she will talk about how you spend too much and are just trying to show off. If you only bring one small one, she will probably say that you should have gotten her something bigger since apparently she thinks your rolling in dough. (whether you are or not is really irrelevant) In my case, i am the youngest of six adult children(ill be 30 in a few months). I am the only one who is unmarried, and have no children(unless you count the four legged furry kind) :) No matter WHAT i do, my older siblings always feel it necessary to comment on how i waste my money, im not good with money, i have no budget, im irresponsible with money, etc. None of which is true. I make a good enough living to support myself and have a little extra for fun and savings. I live very much below my means, although comfortable. I drive the same car i bought (all by myself thank you very much) at age 18. However, some people are just naturally negative nancys. I learned a long time ago to do whatwever the heck i want, especially when it comes to my hard earned cash. You should do the same. P.S. I am sure that the soon to be mommy will very much appreciate everything you got for her. Baby showers are not thrown to celebrate a pregnancy, not really anyway. If they were, they would not require gifts would they? They are to help new parents with some of the things they need for baby.I would put everything in one giant box and wrap it, therefore making it "one" gift. Your "michelle" is the only one you should think about now. Jane's opinions should be kept to herself or ignored....See MoreBaby shower gift suggestions
Comments (49)That is really adorable - I hope the parents appreciate what a wonderful gift a handmade piece is. I know my DIL really had no sentimentality about things that others had made for their baby. In our generation that hooded blanket would become an heirloom piece, passed lovingly to others in the family. I hope it does....See MoreNeed Baby Gift Ideas
Comments (7)My hairstylest is having a long awaited baby. She had much trouble conceiving. Anyway, the couple is of Mexican and Guatemalan decent. They have lived in America for around twenty years and I wanted to get the baby boy a raggedy Andy doll but one that would look like it could be Mexican or Guatemalan. No such thing. Sheesh, there are only black or white Andy’s. I found a very nice seller on Etsy with good reviews and where you could choose hair color, hair lines, skin tones, doll length, clothing and more. So, although not an Andy I’m sort of excited about it because it with look like a kid member of the family. Shame about the Andy, my son carried his around for a few years but this etsy doll/brother should be good. It comes boxed nicely as well. Don’t have it yet though and I need ideas for a little something else to go with. ETA: Well after all my hype the WiseWomanDesignsShop is temporarily on hold as she is moving. There are others on Etsy though I think. Glad I got my order in in time. ETA: Didn't want to highjack by adding this on to Funky thread asking for idea's so I'll edit here. Nini, thanks for the idea of books! I found two that are in English & Spanish, one for tiny baby and one for tots....See MoreHelp, I need a cute baby gift I can get overnight!
Comments (22)The Peter Rabbit books are the best -- I am presently wrapping them (and an adorable PR plush jack-in-the-box, both from Vermont Country Store) for my newest grand-nephew. 66 years ago at Girl Scout camp, I had a counselor who read to us during cabin rest-time. I loved especially her "Tale of Two Bad Mice" SOOOO much, that when I had to leave camp, she gave me her own copy, and inscribed it to me. Still is one of my treasures, and I remember that young woman most fondly. =)...See Moremtnrdredux_gw
