Looking for an affordable good quality Sectional sofa.
Comments (4)Thanks for the feedback. My preference is for a stationary sectional with a traditional look (nothing modern), don't need recliners and want firm cushions due to back issues...I attached a photo of my current couch. It took me 8 months to find the Broyhill and thought we found a gem with the firm Duracoil cushions. This was our 3rd Broyhill and we still have a leather couch that we love and the other one lasted 17 years with a houseful of kids. Broyhill has gone way downhill and the Duracoil technology is a bust! The thought of picking out another couch makes me cringe...off to Pilgrim tonight. We might go with something in leather....See MoreCL patio glider before and after
Comments (23)cyn427--I considered painting the background cream, but actually didn't paint it at all. I didn't want the background too stark since we really don't have any other white out there, so just left it with the sort of beige viney floral design it had, then taped off what I wanted to remain unpainted. That way it also was easier for me since I just sprayed exterior black on the whole thing (used a few coats of rustoleum ultra 2x coverage) then just peeled off the tape. Surprisingly, it doesn't even feel any stiffer than the fabric already felt. I'll try to post a close up. From a distance, it just looks like the background color is light linen. If it looks purple instead of black that may just be my poor phone camera picture. Purple would have been cute, but I'm not that creative! clblakey--The seat is actually a typical outdoor fabric that you see on many patio sets. I think it's nylon, and it doesn't seem plastic. We have it on a couple chairs we've had for several years, and the fabric seems to hold up quite well so far. BTW, I loved your permanent marker coloring the wire on your crystals in the post a pic thread! my3dogs--you know how much I've loved seeing your projects! Your comments mean a lot, and I'll try to post if I ever finish something else. teacats--I'll try to give an update at the end of the summer on how it held up. I'm wondering that myself! trailrunner--If you were close to me, I'd love to help you paint chevrons on your glider! And to ALL the rest of you --I've seen your homes you've shared and admired your tricky organzational ideas (mustangs), your helpful suggestions (teacats)....well, all of you--thanks for your kind encouragement. I love seeing what you all do to make your worlds interesting....See MoreGlider Windows
Comments (1)G(S)liders allow more air infiltration than any other style of window. In order of best to worse: 1. Picture and Fixed window 2. Casement and awning window 3. Single-hung 3. Double-hung 4. Single Slider 5. Double Slider This assumes a comparison of like quality windows. As an example a high quality double slider will generally out perform a low quality double-hung....See MoreNeed to furnish a whole house--affordable furniture suggestions?
Comments (2)That is a tough activity! If it were me, I would identify the pieces that were really important to me and shop for them first. New mattresses, couch, kitchen/dining table and a couple of comfortable chairs. You may have different priorities. Except for mattresses, I would start by looking at the less expensive places - Craig’s list, used and antique furniture stores and the sale areas of local furniture stores. If I couldn’t find anything that worked there, then I would move on to other furniture stores. Furnishing an apartment years ago, I found a high quality couch and matching super comfortable chair in a not my first choice, but workable color in my local area’s best furniture store basement for more than half off. If you find a nice, comfortable, sale couch in a color you hate, you should be able to find a decent cover for it in a color you do like and dress it up with nice pillows. A few lucky finds and compromises like that and suddenly your budget will start looking up. You can start with comfortable but inexpensive chairs for a basic, plain dining table paired with a knock out, keeper rug and dress it up later with better chairs or fancier table. We bought a set of wicker outdoor furniture - two chairs, loveseat, coffee table and an end table - on serious sale for a sitting area in our old house. We bought it just to have something to sit on, but because it was unbelievably comfortable, we ended up loving it and used it for over ten years till it wore out. If you use bedrooms mostly for sleeping, the furniture can be very basic. For years our guest bedroom had a metal mattress frame paired with a fabulous mattress and feather bed, good linens and pillows and everyone who slept there raved because it was so comfortable. No one missed a fancy headboard/bed frame or matching bedroom set. Decide what is most important to you and spend your money on that, and be creative with the remainder for now....See Morejws411
