big, big elephant ears - sources? Varieties?
Comments (6)Be careful where you plant them. They can get enormous! I live in Marietta. I planted some 5-6 years ago to cover the back of my border along the back wall of my house. Not only did they come back every year, they got so big they were shading the entire border. They were a little intimidating! I had to move them to the back edge of my property. It is shadier there so they are behaving much better. They aren't so scary from far away. Mine have never had a bloom, though I hear some varieties do....See MoreBig Blue Mouse Ears?
Comments (7)Hello again. Orange Marmalade will probably make it in the heat, but it may get a little ratty looking. Some hostas just are not as pretty in August. I agree that Blue Cadet and Blue Jay are great hostas. I may try putting a potted Blue Jay in the fridge for a couple of weeks this winter just to see if it will help it be more blue in the spring. It is one of my favorites with such a pretty blue color. It is a challenge to grow hostas in Texas, but they will grow. On the Texas forum there are several people who have grown them for years. I have mine in containers because something was getting the roots. So far so good. I am anxious to see how they do with a month of 100 degree weather. We may not have all that hot of a summer if this strange weather keeps up. That wouldn't hurt my feelings any! Comments (9)jeanonlyone - If your daughter is over the age of five, you could teach her what to do for the cat. My vet carries a thing called a piller which allows you to give a cat a pill by yourself with one hand, hold the cat with the other hand. I know this is going to sound weird, but was your husband a big Pat Martino fan? I just noticed the name Yoshi - very different - I like it. Also, ask the vet if the med is available in liquid. One of our cats was just put on a course of antibiotics that are administered by dropper. My daughter can do that. I think we tend to underestimate, or maybe the kids "play dumb" so that the adults do it all, but I have learned by teaching my child age appropriately, of course, to do things that would normally be done by adults - nothing crazy, but I think if your daughter is old enough, why not try to teach her. I think if you can teach her she will be interested enough and therefore responsible for the care and treatment of the illness. I feel badly for you all in this situation. It is tough enough but when you are trying to care for a cat that doesn't live with you... Can the kitty stay with you for any length of time if your daughter isn't old enough, if the explanation of kitty needs certain care? These are the only two things I can think of. Good luck and please post how Lily is doing with Yoshi's care if you can teach her how to do it....See MoreTwo big ears of cooked corn...
Comments (23)sleevendog, I checked out fresh corn today too, on sale 5 ears for $1. They were HUGE, I can't imagine them being tender or tasting good. I passed. :-( On the upside, I'm planting the garden this weekend, it's going to be in the 80s all weekend with intermittent rain. Perfect gardening weather, if I can get seeds in the ground they'll get wet and warm, simultaneously. Sweet corn will be a couple of months after that, LOL. Cindy, that recipe looks like something Elery would like very much, I'm saving it too. Seagrass, thanks to this thread, I want corn chowder, and the temps hit 90 here today!
