We owned a sleeper sofa once and said, "Never again." They weigh a ton, and ours wasn't comfortable. I can't even remember the name brand -- it was a long time ago.

DLM I have Natural Latex pillows that were recommended many years ago by Tibbrix when she participated here. I tried to buy a 2nd pillow but had trouble finding one of theirs that didn't have wool core, which my original did not. I emailed the company and they connected me with a place that sold the solid foam in the USA. I looked at Amazon and their listings are really goofy; one says the pillow is latex but the description says it's memory foam (which I doubt). I don't see anywhere that sells the solid foam without the wool core, but they claim the wool makes it even more temp regulating. I searched for her original post about the brand and it's posted below (OMG I hate this site. I tried to add something to my post and it deleted the original post but posted the addition, then wouldn't let me edit it. I'm starting over but what a pain this place is.): "Natura natural Latex Ultimate pillow. This pillow is just the right balance between firm and soft. I have two, because I ordered the standard first, and Canadian standard is smaller than American, then got a queen. I keep the standard on my sofa. My neighbor's daughter put her head on it one day and immediately mentioned how great the pillows, that she wanted one. Her parents ended up giving her one for Christmas last year. Can't even describe it. Firm enough that it holds your head, but soft enough that it doesn't hurt your ears after lying on them for a while. They're great. You can get them in some American mattress stores."

Don't recover it unless you find it super comfy AS IS. By the time you do? You could start over with a new sofa. Trying to build a support within is a no go. You'd be far better finding a consigned quality sofa.....and recovering something previously enjoyed. Local to you, if at all possible.
