Can anyone identify this disease?
Comments (8)Not a pest or disease. It's such a common issue, I put the following together & saved it for whenever it pops up: Oedema is a physiological disorder that can affect all plants. It occurs when the plant takes up more water than it can rid itself of via the process of transpiration. In afflicted plants, internal water pressure (turgidity) can become so high that some leaf cells rupture or cell contents leak into inter-cellular spaces in leaf tissue. Oedema is most often driven by excessive water retention in the soil, but cool temperatures, high humidity levels, low light conditions, or partial defoliation can individually or collectively be additional contributors, as can anything else that slows transpiration. As well, nutritional deficiencies of Ca and Mg are known contributors to the malady. Symptoms vary by plant, but can include wet or weepy areas on the foliage, blisters that turn from white or tan to dark brown or black, then gradually turn corky/ scaly/ ridged, and wart-like or gall-like bumpy growth. Comments (1)Fabulous piece and no I can’t identify it. I googled tansu, shoji screen, Asian cabinet, mid-century….no luck. The only thing which shows up is all of your posts. It may be one of a kind…none of my Asian pieces have any identifying marks....See MoreMore royal chatter…anyone else think it’s odd…
Comments (124)Tina Marie - no, I'm a Canadian living in Australia. Mostly, I couldn't care less about the Royals and their activities. I'm hopeful that both my countries will become republics in my lifetime. Although there's a fair bit of coverage of the family here in Oz, I only got interested in the subject when it appeared my Canadian taxes (which I still pay) might be diverted to pay for Harry's security in BC while he sat on a multi-million dollar inheritance. That didn't sit at all well with me, or with most Canadians, and probably colored my views. Part of my skepticism though, has nothing to do with Harry and Meghan specifically, but with charities in general. You look at the books for a lot of them, and in some cases surprisingly little of the money raised or donated goes to actual causes; the rest is absorbed by "administration" - advertising, salaries, overhead, etc. I'm very selective about who and what I donate to these days....See MoreCan anyone help identify my tree?
Comments (9)find some leaves on the ground.. and take a pic of those with a scale.. if you can ... reminds me a bit of redbud or poplar with those heart shaped leaves ... but they are too small in these pix to tell for sure ... whether or not something might fall down.. really depends on whether it will fall on anything ... of value or importance .. this tree looks like it pretty far from anything important.. so why would there be any imperative to have it removed.. btw.. i dont recommend chopping it.. unless you just want some backbreaking aerobic exercise .. lol ... and i presume the car isnt parked there all the time .... in theory.. any tree might fall down.. but we dont really go bare earth to avoid such.. its all about the odds ... and starting with an ID was spot on .... anyway... in tree time.. counted in decades.. ya.. it might fall down.. i dont see any reason why it need be done inside a few weeks or months ... ken ps: perhaps your realtor ought to stick to selling houses.. i dont see any indication from the lawn.. that the tree is aggressive with stealing water .. if it were.. grass wouldnt grow there.. and i note.. there are plants growing under it.. right at the trunk... that doesnt happen with water hog trees .... and btw.. if you decide to have it removed.. thats a bargaining point for a low offer.. if the market will bare such ... on reread.. i see you already bought the house.. congrats .. pps: whats a neighborhood gardener.. and why does he or she have a hate on for this tree ... probably his car parked under it... lol ... or he wants you to hire him to remove it????...See MoreOlychick
