Many thanks to all those who weighed in on our frenzied fridge search! We've narrowed it down to the GE side by side and the CD FD Kitchenaid. Jenn-Air seems to have a model that looks virtually identical, with the exception of 'professional handles'. It's a few hundred dollars more, which may mean that we're destined to remain amateurs! The problem as Kayl said, is the 30'' depth, which is deeper than we would have liked. We're wondering if it could be recessed into the void in the wall behind, or if that would interfere with heat exchange. I talked to customer service, but we all know how productive that was! I have it and it does work well IF the base is very very chilled before you place it in the frozen unit. Also you can't have a warm kitchen. So in Summer, when you usually want to make icecream, you need to find a place in your kitchen that is quite cool. The unit/bucket thaws out pretty quickly. You then take the icecream and place it in the freezer to cure. You can also eat it immediately as soft serve. I got mine free with my mixer as a bonus on Mother's Day during a sale a few years ago. I wouldn't have spent the $100 they were asking otherwise. If you really plan on making much icecream you need to get a real freezer. c

I haven't used it in a while but this is the original KA pasta attachment. We used it regularly for a while, but it does take more assembly than the later ones. The second is the pasta roller and cutters -- for sheets and flat pasta, so that doesn't really add anything to what you can do manually. The newest was released this fall and is a set of plates and an extruder that is self-contained. You don't need the grinder to use it. I got one for Christmas, but I haven't used it yet. The one you have works well, but you do need to learn how to judge the moisture content of the dough correctly. Too wet will cause sticking and too dry will be hard to get through the machine.

I also have the KA ice cream attachment, and I like it because it easily makes two quarts and is relatively quiet. I bought a Cuisinart ice cream maker shortly after it got the KA attachment because it was on sale at Kohl's for ridiculously low price (which I can't remember), and I don't like it quite as much. For one, its limit is 1-1/2 quarts (less than most of my recipes), and it makes too much noise if I run it on my kitchen counter, since my kitchen is open to the living room. So I generally move it to the sewing room if I want to use it. Of the two, I like the KA better, but I haven't noticed that much difference in clean-up. The cuisinart has more parts to store, however, since it has to have its own motor. Like Terry, I store both mixing bowls in the freezer in the garage. Lars
