Comments (23)You can't paint the yellow, but you are willing to paint the brick? The brick is the best part of the house. The yellow is (kindly) horrible. Windows are white, paint all the yellow white. As for vertical siding, a no on that, do it the same horizontal as the rest of the vinyl clapboard. Find something to hang where the patio door was. I would mimic a window. Lots of salvage window to be found. Paint the garage door to color of the brick. It is not too late to paint, unless you are in Alaska. Sherwin-Williams offers their Duration line "which can be applied in temperatures as low as 35 degrees with perfect adhesion". Please don't paint the brick....See MoreHelp Needed - Exterior Trim Color for Stone House
Comments (18)I would say you have a brownstone -- and a remarkably clean one! I agree with Hallett that it's best to just accept the white windows and paint the trim the same. They will just look like storm windows and everyone accepts historic houses need them. For the rest of the trim, including the porch columns I would go with traditional dark colors that mimic mahagony, iron and bronze. I might paint the small dormer the same dark color as the columns, and for the shingles I'd be very tempted to plum or a deep eggplant or burgundy/claret. This is Farrow & Ball's Brinjal Glass doors, or clear glass storm doors over dark wood doors would make your doors reflective and help them get noticed. But I think painting them a light color or any color would be a mistake. Without going clown crazy, I think you can play up the architectural lines of the roof and porch roof and soffits with different dark and gray paints that would be fitting to the fact that the was always intended to be an impressive house....See MoreI need help w/my exterior!!!
Comments (10)We use a lot of painted brick in our designs but in the case of your house I rather like the brick and stucco combination. In agreement with you about replacing the garage door. Would suggest that you include lites (windows) somewhere in the door. Nothing opens up a flat garage fascade like adding windows. A definite yes to replacing the current post supporting the portico roof. Would suggest you replace with columns that are much more substantial - perhaps even have a pair of columns on each side. Would also suggest placing those columns on brick bases using the same brick as on your house....See More- 5 years ago
