Hi, I can't show you a pic because it hasn't arrived yet, but I ordered a custom hood from Rangecraft. I saw one in one of the Better Homes and Gardens Kitchen magazines and really liked the look. They have a lot of different styles from old world to modern. Not the least expensive way to go for sure... but it will make a nice statement. We went with the Taconic in Stainless with a pot rail on the front and bands with rivets on the corners. We'll have to see how it looks when it is in (I am keeping my fingers crossed). The particular hood shown above appears to have traded minimum view blockage for reduced capture and containment capability -- the two functions that a hood is intended to perform above all others. I suggest determining where adequately capable hoods can be installed in the kitchen that don't excessively block desired views and which allow proper ducting to the outside. Then evaluate placing the range under those candidate hood locations with the rest of the kitchen layout adapted to that configuration. Perhaps one of the resulting layouts will meet most requirements. Island and peninsula locations for cooktops require relatively obtrusive, larger hoods with commensurate higher air flow rates due to having all four sides of the rising effluent path open. kas

Check out Nalcar's hood in the thread linked below (as well as the niches). It's a nothing hood. Barely there. Yours would have cabinets framing it a bit on the sides of course as Nalcar has all short cabs. Modern in that kitchen, but invisible in a traditional one, leaving room to do a fab backsplash. Now, you would need a really fabulous behind-the-range treatment if you decided to take the hood out of the decorating equation. Not sure I'd DO it, but it's something to consider along with all the other considerations. Here is a link that might be useful: some niches

Ok, I'm the impatient type...don't want to wait for your answer! I'm going to assume that there are base cabs on either side. Seems to me what would look best is something that treats the whole space between corner and window as one unit. You could simply put a wall cab on either side of the hood you've got (or use a wood cover similar in shape, but not style, to either of the two pictures you showed...but without the two the counter pillars on the second one). The cabinet to the left of the stove would hide the vent in it. The one on the right would be a usable wall cabinet. But if the budget allows and you don't need the wall cabinet space, I'd seriously think about an oversized hood that extended as far as it needed to on either side of the range to encompass the outside vent. A vintage looking one like the Modernaires would be lovely, but other styles, like the one in the first pic above would work. I'd just be careful to keep the hood simple...something that would look appropriate with and not overpower your lovely vintage stove.
