Color is always so much fun when it comes to remodeling! Chantilly Lace is a very bright white (High Hide) color. It's beautiful! I usually recommend that people reserve this color for baseboards and woodwork. However, if you love it for your walls, you could always decrease the sheen on the walls and increase the sheen for the woodwork. Or is it better to continue using Chantilly but in a different finish? This. Definitely this. The rule of thumb for white on white is the white trim color must have less Chroma than the wall color - difference needs to be 0.20 (ish). Chantilly Lace, although it isn't the whitest-most-white-white in Benjamin Moore or over all, has a really low Chroma value, 0.27. You would need a color of white with a Chroma of 0.07 (ish). And there isn't one. Which means there is no way to put Chantilly Lace on walls and pair it with another white on the trim that will look bright, clean and crisp juxtaposed to Chantilly. Chantilly will make another bright, clean, crisp white on the trim look dingy. So, your only option since Chantilly is on the walls and you want white trim too, is to use Chantilly in a different gloss/sheen on the trim. Gloss/sheen in paint colors comes from the pigment volume/resin ratio, not from colorants. Even tho gloss/sheen does affect the way a color appears, it's more about the ratio of ingredients, not color attributes. Which is why one color in different gloss/sheen levels will look different but amazingly, miraculously the color of the different finishes always go together.

Hi we are building new house - modern/open concept but not ultra modern. Was recommended to do Chantilly Lace trim/doors/ceiling and paint White dove for bathroom walls, kitchen cabinetry. However I've been reading that white dove while a versatile and lovely colour can look bad next to a truer white eg. White tile, toilets/tubs, chantilly lace, so now I'm worried about areas where these 2 are going to be side by side. Ideally I want a warm but versatile white not creamy and it would be nice to have the same ceiling/trim/door colour everywhere. Should I reconsider these colours together? Or will they be just fine? Bathrooms I could have different trim/ceiling colour but it gets tricky in open concept kitchen, dining room and family room. I can't do paint swatches and don't have the millwork done yet - just have to pick a colour and go with it as this is construction for a whole house. General colour scheme for what has been selected so far: natural oak and walnut millwork, oak floors, black frame windows, tiles grey/greige/white/soft white colours. I've looked at both colours and while I like them each separately not sure about putting them together but I'm looking at paint chips only. Appreciate any advice as I am starting to go crazy researching white paint!!

I suggest removing white dove from the scheme. In a poorly light or Northern exposure room, White Dove can look grimy. Do instead Chantilly Lace for trim/cabinets in a semi-gloss and Chantilly Lace for the walls and ceiling in a matte finish. The different finishes will make the one color look differently. If the above one color/different finishes isn’t enough of a contrast, do the Chantilly Lace on trim, cabinets and ceiling and try b.M. Wedding Veil on the walls in matte finish.
