Help me decide on backsplash areas
Comments (3)I'll have to get a picture of my setup because it's pretty much exactly what you are doing (LOVE the dropdown vanity). The backsplash is straight across the back and therefore, is taller behind the vanity. The mirror then runs along that straight edge. It will look definitely look odd if you drop it down. I'll try to take a picture tonight if I have a chance after I get home from work....See MoreFinally decided on backsplash...please help with layout
Comments (14)Just to clarify, because I'm a little confused. The tile is all going to be stacked and all the same size regardless if it's the glass or the opaque? The glass row will only be 1 tile tall, so you're trying to decide how many stripes and that will tell you how many tiles high of the opaque tiles you will use? Yes, mahlgold, you've got it right. My head was starting to spin, trying to explain it! :-) Thanks for asking for clarification. I have wanted glass mosaic all along, and I had something very similar in my last kitchen, so I am ready for the grout lines. The challenge was to bring a subtle suggestion of horizontality (is that even a word?) to the wall, to help ameliorate what I perceive as an imbalance on the range wall, as you may recall. So, yes, it will be quite different from the inspiration pic in overall effect. But, that was one of the ways I found to bring in a "horizontal" element. Yes, I do feel lucky at the moment. I see you are continuing to struggle. It is so hard. And, often when I think I am there, something shifts. I always wonder when it will end and if this time I really have it right. One thing interesting my husband said yesterday as we discussed all the different ways to use the Sandstone and pale blue together was that really any of them would look good. He's right and it helped me relax a bit. Just a bit. :-)...See MoreHelp me decide on backsplash please.
Comments (87)Hi There, Thank you for asking. I did finally choose backsplash. After probably 50 samples, we finally went with a gray glass. Not what I would have envisioned but so many of the samples that I thought would look good, didn't. Here's a quick photo. The kitchen is a mess because I am just starting to put things in the cabinets, YAY!...See MoreHelp! Will this back-splash work?
Comments (18)If your choice were only between to 2 you originally posted, I'd choose the one on the right--the cream one. From the photos it looks like it works very well with your quartzite. The gray one is "off" just enough not to look pleasing. However, as many have noted, either one is more difficult to clean than a smooth surface. What sort of cook are you--very neat or more devil-may-care? If you are very neat and do not splash much when you cook, then you may get away with the split-faced marble, but if you are a more exuberant cook, you may find it a challenge to clean. The mother of pearl is very formal and quite busy, so it's going to compete with the counter tops as well. Personally, I would use a smooth crackle tile in a tan/beige tone to work with your quartzite. Simple is always good....See Moreb c
