What color grout would you use for backsplash?

I have this lovely grey umber backsplash tile that I intend to use as an accent in my backsplash along with 3 x6 white or whitish subway tile. I will have vinyl tile flooring with beige and gray in it, midtone oak cabinets, a whitish light countertop and slate appliances. What color would you use for grout on the backsplash tile.....should I use two different ones......a darker one for the grey umber and matching white for subway tile?

I would go with a medium to light cream colored grout. The backsplash reads more earth tones than gray in this sample.

Thanks J Hack.......it has both gray and brown in it with a strong lean to earthtones, which I think will allow me some flexibility when making color changes to the room. I was thinking of using a light grout color, but wondered if it would look okay between the accent or be to stark.

I have typhoon bordeaux with cherry cabinets and went with a creamy subway tile. I brought home over 20 smaples from 6 stores and the best match to my granite was biscuit by American Olean. I got it from Roma tile in Watertown and it was only $3.65/sq ft and they stock it. There's a bunch more tile stores in Watertown - tile showcase has beautiful tile but is a bit more pricey. They had a gorgeous crackle tile that had great depth. If I didn't alreay have brick in part of my backsplash I would have gone with that.

How did you choose the grout color for your backsplash tile?

We're going to be making our backsplash grout decision shortly. What kind of tile are you using? We have ivory subway tile and we may choose a slightly contrasting grout colour, possible gray, to emphasize, rather than minimize, the pattern a little. We like the way the tile looks ungrouted and don't want the shadow lines to disappear altogether. I'm going to post a new thread about our backsplash tile (which we're installing ourselves). Artemis, we'd like to hear more about your grout matched caulking. Where did you get it? What brand did you use? And anything else you could tell us would be great.

Many people with Carrara (which is similiar) have chosen Custom Platinum. It's a very light grey that tends to minimize patterns, if that is your goal. But, compare the color to your sample, as your tile may be different.

Well, vintage was the original idea because this is a remodel of our family farm's kitchen that my in-laws for several generations have lived in. Now we have lived here for 20 years and it was time to replace the 65 year old cupboards. We have college kids and they hated to see the old stuff go so I tried to keep the spirit of the place. The counters are soapstone, the knobs are the black iron that Amerock makes. The exposed hinges match. The wood is cherry. Thanks for both of your comments. Score 1 to 1. I would go with a slight off white subway tile and a shade darker grout for everything. I assume you are doing just an accent line around the entire backsplash? Either way... keep grout color same as the rest of the backsplash.
