Renofan - You did a fantastic job on that chair, and I think you should go ahead and do the little chair in the yellow toile, too. That's the fabric that I used to make my bedroom duvet and curtains, (the thread is "I've got the blues...thanks to you"). You'll find that this fabric is very reasonably priced, yet a good, sturdy fabric to work with. I also used the yellow duck ticking fabric from the same site, FashionFabricsClub.com. Wouldn't you know I have 4 wingback chairs that are in excellent condition, but all have old fabric on them that I can't stand. Two of them, in fact, resemble what your wingback looked like before. Thanks to you, and the website that you furnished on upholstering, I now know what project I plan to tackle next! I know I'll never match your speed or expertise in these projects, but at least I can make an attempt. Your motivation inspires me to get my butt off this chair and start searching for more fabric. Now I can't wait to see your little toile chair, and if you ever need to find a home for it once it's done, I have a bedroom that would love to adopt it....lol! Beautiful job!! Heidi

I always kind of feel like I'm running in a million different directions at once and I figured that you all probably thought I have a form of decorating attention deficit disorder. We live in North Carolina. I'm originally from NY though and I know from comparison, the cost of living in general is much, much lower here. JGTBM .. I'm almost 99.9 % positive I'm going to go with Wbgroovy's suggestion and do the black polkadots, with the green velvet cording. I called and put a hold on the green velvet today since it's in the discount room, I can't beat $5 a yard for velvet. I'm going to try to get there tomorrow to pick it all up, then drop it off at the shop. Budge .. I love the idea of fringe! My next big project after these chairs will be a sofa for this room, maybe fringe will show up on it :) I stopped one other fabric warehouse today and boy, they had awesome prices on some stuff. I dug through their remnant stacks and found two pieces I really liked! I bought 4 yards of this at $2 a yard, it's indoor/outdoor and I'm totally in love with it. I'm not sure it's going to go on the glider yet, but I think it looks great on it. I bought 6 yards of this and again it was $2 a yard. I have this in mind to do a seat cushion for a bench I'd like to put in the hallway : Just showing them from the top :

I like it. All the ideas above -- even a closet chair for dressing and putting on shoes if you have the space in a walk-in or beside your closet. Would be really cute in a girl's bedroom, possibly a boy's, a guest room -- anywhere you might want to pull an extra chair up to a table. Would definitely change the fabric for my house, but that looks like it would be easy to do.

Thanks so much! I really wasn't fishing for compliments, but I had hijacked another thread with that chair, and there were opinions on the paint/don't paint, so I wanted to show the final decision. And to encourage others to not be afraid to take a cheap dowdy chair and make it over. I don't know if I could have a whole room full of those, but it's fun to have something a little funky to throw in a lonely corner. And there's always an odd chair to be had at the thrifts and garage sales. Trailrunner, that lamp is fabulous! I need to just jump in and finish my lamp. If it doesn't turn out, I always have more Krylon. ;) The glue I use is Titebond Liquid Hide glue. It comes in a brown bottle and was a little hard to find, but you can buy it online or at some Ace hardware stores. If you're buying in person, check the expiration date before you buy.
