Comments (7)I gotcha all beat! I saved some hospital bills from having my babies and their later hospital bills for having tonsils removed. The first one was born in Dec 1950. 4 days PRIVATE Room 36.00 medicines 4.20 3 days nursery 7.50 Lab, routine 6.00 Dressings 6.00 Maternity/labor rm. 12.50 Baby bracelet 1.00 Total 73.20 When I checked into the hospital for my third, they insisted on a deposit. My DH had only his paycheck, which he had received that morning, he gave them the entire week's salary. 69 bucks for 55 hours. In all fairness to the hospitals. They were not covered by minimum wage laws until late in the 1960. When I first went to work in the Payroll Department of our largest in 1974, our hospital was still working towards reaching the standard minimum wage, which I think then, was $2.10 per hour. Every year, we added 25 cents to the bottom pay and boosted everyone else above that the same to compensate the other employees for their time and expertise. It amounted to a big pile of money each year. Everytime the minimum wage goes up, places like non-profit hospitals either cut personnel or services. It can't come out of profit, because there isn't any....See MoreNo $70 Silgranit Sinks - the deal isn't real
Comments (44)I would have been happy to get the sink at cost as mentioned above. Sadly they did not offer me an alternative price. Would have jumped on it in a heartbeat! I was willing to take whatever they offered as long as it didn't cost me anything. I spend too much time dealing with irrational people and misplaced anger at the pharmacy to be "that" customer to the poor CS rep. I do find it odd that those with cancelled orders were compensated for the inconvenience, and those of us that received the grid are all over the board. I certainly don't mind returning the grid, but it really IS an inconvenience to have to call, do the return shipping, make sure the refund shows up, etc and not even have the same curtesy offer extended. To be fair, knowing there is a new color coming (cinder) and that truffle was a recent introduction, it wasn't far fetched to believe truffle may be headed out (last year's color) and the other light colors may be either clearanced as slow movers or being "updated". That stuff happens, and usually the prices are great....See MoreCarpet guys insisting power stretch isn't necessary...
Comments (9)Recommended Actions: get some more bids. Look for a vendor who offers a lifetime installation guarantee. This typically means that if your carpet buckles due to installation error, then the vendor is responsible to re-stretch the carpet for you at no charge. Another option would be to find a CFI certified installer (Google CFI installer). This tells you that they know how carpet is supposed to be installed. Most installers in our area use power stretchers because it is easier on their bodies, faster to install, puts the required 1 - 1-1/2% stretch in both directions (approximately 1" per 10lf), and it is the right way to do the job. Now, couple more things you can check that will help you decide for sure: 1) ask them if (variations: do you, how do you, what do you use to...) the seams need to be sealed (answer: yes, with latex, acrylic, or thermoplastic sealer on both sides of the cut seam should be sealed.). 2) ask if they are using your existing tack strip, it should be reinforced with another row, especially if the rooms are on the larger size. The pins of the old tack strip can be damaged/bent and may not be able to hold the stretch "drum tight". If they are putting down new tack strip, make sure it is architectural strip (3 rows of pins) and that it is reinforced with extra nails as needed. There are many other technical things that are recommended practices for carpet installation, but the above items mentioned are all covered in the Kindergarten Flooring Installation Curriculum (technically CRI - Carpet and Rug Institute - Google it.). Smartstrand is an excellent choice of carpet fiber and I would hate to see it compromised by someone who has no idea or the willingness to install it correctly. Comments (21)I have "custom" cabinets per the cabinet maker (I called them semi custom and they flipped out)... they build all the boxes to custom dimensions but order the drawers from a supplier and all of the doors, drawer fronts, trim, molding, veneer, etc is ordered from Conestoga. I have a big kitchen... about 23'X12'. We have 10' ceilings and have stacked cabinets with 7" of 3-piece crown on top. We have drawers everywhere - the only base cabinets were under the clean up and prep sinks. We have some Rev a Shelf pullouts - tall pantry cabinets, a couple 12" wide pullouts, two garbage pullouts...We have double sided glass cabinets in a passthrough to our dining room. Our dining room has built in cabinets to look like a hutch. We also have a 42" wide wine bar with 42" glass uppers and 7" crown. And we have a 10' island. We paid just under $50K for the above without installation for all the above. And I'm located in Tampa, FL....See MoreUser
