I would do a wall unit in the center section and put the TV within that. And then I would get two matching pieces of furniture for the two side sections, some type of console or buffet type piece. I would wallpaper the three niches to give them some texture, and then hang your art work on top of that in the two outer sections

I agree that by itself the map is a bit muted but if you love the map idea, you could just add more in different colors, some brighter, etc for a gallery wall of maps. if you just want one large piece of art, it needs to be much larger for that wall, length should be 75% of the length of the sofa.

Thank you for the additional pictures. I'm going to make a list of suggestions for the entire space for you to think about as budget allows. It's a lovely room with lots of space, but it's not warm and inviting yet. --I agree with Jan that you need a deep wide piece for your child's books and toys. The piece you're showing is too small. If you must keep it, then move it over and put a chair in the corner, lamp to the left. --Or get a very wide wide bench with lift-up storage. Then move your console to the right of your fireplace for your TV instead of over the fireplace. Replace camel sofa with chair. This is very country, but I'm showing how you could put a long bench there with baskets below for toy storage. Great place for guests to sit when you're entertaining. --Next up: Move your sofa at least a foot away from the window, a foot or more back to give the room some airiness. Everything is jammed too far forward there. --Get bamboo shades in a camel color like to add some color at the window with white curtains to the side. These will give texture to the room. --Get a very large rug in this palette that ties together dark flooring, white sofa, camel sofa, and a new color. Here are the colors to look for. The rug should be big enough for all your upholstered pieces to rest on it. Order the smallest rug to try out colors and material. If they work, send back small rug and get large one. This color scheme would work very well in your room, though it doesn't have to be this rug particularly. There's a lot of contrast and echoes floor, camel sofa, etc. -- --Think about adding a long, wide runner to create a pathway into your living room: --Do you have to keep the camel sofa? A comfortable arm chair would fit better there. And the TV wouldn't dominate the room so much if you moved it to the right of the fireplace. It could actually go above the piece you're asking about. Then you could put a great piece of art above the fireplace and have art and the TV to look at. --Are those mirrors going to be anchored. They're dangerous with young children around. In any case, you don't need two of them, just one by the window to catch the light with TV to the right over your console. --I see a various items that clutter up the space. Remove all fake plants and little shelves and little tables. A big round coffee table would fit in much betteer with your sofa and nesting tables to pull out as needed as side tables. Finish should echo the floors and kitchen cabinets. If you're keeping current coffee table, then these nesting tables would work: --At some point get a long rectangular dining table in dark wood to echo your cabinets and floors. Your table looks very small.

Thanks everyone! i like the idea of the series of framed prints and may go that route! I know the tv over the fireplace isnt ideal but that is where is was before we got here and unfortunately there is no other place that we feel would be good for it (I dont like the idea of using the back wall and putting the couch back to the fireplace), we will be getting a mantel and a mount that you can pull the TV downward to eye level but havent gotten there yet!
