I would break up the sectional. Put the piece that is to the right, with the ottoman, so that the front edge lines up at about the outside edge of the fireplace, on the right as you face the fireplace. Get an end table to use on the end of the couch without the arm and add a lamp. You need to get rid of the overhead lighting for everyday use, as it washes out the room, makes it glaring, and is not conducive to 'cozy' Take the chaise and place it opposite the piece you just put in place. Put a floor lamp near the chaise, kind of at the left side of the fireplace. Someone can now sit on the chaise and still see the tv, but also face the other seating for conversation. You might think about adding a couple of comfy leather or woven wicker/seagrass ottomans to sit under the shelving on the right side, for extra seating when needed. If you get ones that have storage, so much the better. Take the family photos and put them on the shelves, or hang them in among the shelving and mix in candles, books, etc. A Add some valances or bamboo/woven wood shades on the two windows. I would take the three art pieces and try them elsewhere in your home. I like them, but I think they look too much like the shape and color of the stone fireplace - too much the same and it all blends together. Instead, think about something round, to break up all the angles in the area, and to pick up on the rounded pillows and corners on the furniture. Perhaps a large round mirror, or a grouping of various height candlesticks that have lots of curves. It would be great if you could wall mount the speakers that are currently on stands, to keep that area from looking so busy. If not, for sure I would move the subwoofer to the other side of the entertainment console, so that it is more tucked away and not the first thing you see. Think about painting the end walls of the room a couple of shades darker than the fireplace wall and kitchen counter wall. It will visually bring the room more into square. Blues and greens are workable. Think bright navy for the blue, and then perhaps a strong acid green/apple green for accents in the room. Or, consider a warm pumpkin/rust color as the accent color instead of the green.

I think you are right for the living room. Is the shelving unit going? I would replace with something that takes less space - unless you actually have a lot of books you can't part with. You said TV - if possible I would mount it on the wall to save space and get a smaller unit or electric fireplace underneath. For the kitchen I would consider a round or square table - but if rectangular is what you have then I would place the longer side against the currently mirror wall; and have 2 chairs along the wall side and a bench along the opposite side. Not sure what size the space is but if on the smaller side, the bench would allow you to seat more people without crowding the space up with chair, chair, chair, chair. :)

I really like your remodel. love the kitchen cabinet color. One idea for that long tall wall is to perhaps add a tall cabinet to the left of the sofa, possibly an open bookcase or a tall closed cabinet, depending on if you need storage or perhaps a place to show some of your treasures you might have or books, a large piece of art above the sofa and then to the right a side table with a tall floor lamp. the floor lamp will balance off the tall cabinet on the left and the sofa and art above will connect the middle part of the wall to the two ends. a few ideas on tall cabinets....

Hi it's my first time here so please excuse any possible mistake in creating this discussion.After building this wall in my living, we found that the stairs side is not straight vertically, the reason why you can notice in it's bottom it's getting closer to the living room. The easiest solution I thought about was to build the wall until the end of its intersection with the ceiling.. but I am still trying to find any alternative to decrease at least the length of the needed extension so I thought about these options- extending the upper part of the wall more than the rest of it, maybe adding one or two shelves in the lateral will make it look more symmetric- hiding the shape with tv wood decoration ideas- extend the ceiling to bottom (like an arche) on the entrance to the living to connect the pillar and this wallPlease help if you have any good idea..Thank youI will post photos in comments if this will be possible
