A few Hostas from my garden - photos
Comments (11)Amazing! Brenda, I was able to find the tags (readable even) on all but one of the hosta that I posted the photos of. In order, from top photo to bottom photo, they are: 1) Ice Age Trail 2) ** missing tag ** I thought it was Blue Dimples, but it doesn't look like the Blue Dimples photos on Hostalib so now I'm not sure. 3) Montana Aueromarginata 4) Queen of the Seas 5) Same hosta as number 2 - from another angle. 6) Orange Marmelade (my husband's absolute favorite) 7) Iron Gate Delight I'd love to post more pics, if anyone would like to see them. Some I can identify, some I can't. I have somewhere around 280-300 varieties, but not all are picture worthy :-)...See MoreA few pics of my garden from tonight.
Comments (12)Well thank you everyone! :-))) I wish I didn't plant all those annuals the way I did though.. you can hardly see the lilies in amongst all the other flowers. Oh well, guess I shoulda realized the lilies wouldn't grow to their mature height in the first year... live and learn I suppose. Those freckled lilies are quite beautiful IMO... but the yellow ones aren't opening properly due to the heat.. the orange ones opened up nicely however. I do love lilies.. they are my favorite flower out of pretty much all... but they look nice when mixed with other flowers that accentuate their color and beauty. I was going to put some daylilies in the garden on the other side of my front steps but I never did get around to buying any... this year anyways. That area got filled up with Cleome!! I didn't know there were that many as hubby used to cut in where that garden is located so the amount of plants there shocked us both... he loves those so that's a good thing though. As far as my favorite lily? That's a hard question... although I do find myself gravitating towards the dark red ones though so I guess out of all the ones blooming right now I'd have to say the Black Out lily would be my favorite... although in another week or so I guess my Landini lily will be blooming so that will be my fav too!! LOL... just can't make up my mind! Fragrance.... hmm... not really yet.. but only because the ones blooming right now don't have much fragrance except for the white one.. that's called Eyeliner and it has a mild scent. Once the OT lilies bloom though the smells should waft into the house as they are planted right under my living room window. ;-) Thanks again for all the compliments.. and for ignoring all the weeds that are visible in those photos.. LOL ttfn Cheryl....See Morea few pics from my friend Betty's garden today... :)
Comments (6)Hey, Dean, love your pictures--always love to see garden photos. Very nice daylilies--my fav is Morrie Otte. I looked it up on AHS and it says it has a silver-frost eye zone with a green throat. It certainly caught my eye. Avedon...See MoreA few pics from my garden
Comments (16)Gawdinfever, Glad that you're getting excited 😊 Since you're in zone 6, there's some plants that you can grow but I cant and visa versa. Since we don't have frosts or freezes here, my plants bloom and grow all year. I do have to trim and thin them sometimes. In addition, the humidity here is horrendous so many zone 6 plants wouldn't make it here. I grow tropical milkweed since it does well here and penta and lantana are pretty much perennial for me but would be annuals for you. Not sure what state you're in but I'd search online for butterfly host and nectar plants for your area and USDA hardiness zone 6. Many larger universities and also state/county ag departments have info as well. In Ohio where I was zone 5b, Joe Pye was a great nectar plant. I had many native milkweeds. Eastern swallowtails will use fennel, parsley and dill. Yarrow, asters, coneflowers, liataris, monarda, catmint, salvia and black eyed Susan were good nectar plants for me. But, I've been in Florida for 12 years and the memory isn't as good as it was. Good luck and keep us updated....See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
