Replacing Kitchen Cabinets w/o Disturbing Tile Floor
Comments (1)Without seeing it in person I couldn't say for sure, however its very very possible yes. You have to keep in mind that the new cabinets have to follow the exact same floor plan or at least go over the cabinet tile. The new cabinets should be built up to the height of the finished tile floor height to avoid any issues with the dishwasher and such. As for your situation, depending on who you talk to, putting down flooring before cabinets or after cabinets depends on who you ask. I've talked with flooring guys that feel that you would never put down flooring first but rather afterwards. But there are a few things to keep in mind. Yes you could put your flooring down now but you would pretty much have to be in love with your current floor plan as you would have to keep it the same. Also if you put the flooring down now you COULD run into a potential problem with getting your dishwasher out if necessary. But if you are removing your old cabinets and tops at remodel then that could be a problem you won't have, just make sure you have enough tile to do under the dishwasher when you're ready to do the entire remodel. If you tile under the dishwasher now during the floor remodel and you're not remodeling your cabinets yet you could run into an issue with it fitting under the countertop....See MorePaint for kitchen w/ honey oak cabinets and terra cotta floor
Comments (36)arcy, I can reposition the island. Funny you mentioned that because my mom hopped on the wagon to help me figure out what to do with the kitchen and she, too, suggested I reposition it. She also pointed out that the otherside of the island is much more attractive than the side that's exposed to the dining room. I will turn it next time I'm at the house and see what it's like. Thanks! Also, thanks for the wallpaper suggestion. I'll check out the collection at SW for ideas just in case. :) annkathryn, your cabinets are GORGEOUS! Thank you for the inspiration photos. They are gentle reminders of ways I can live with what I've got for now until I'm able to do what you did with transforming them. Great job! As promised, here are better photos of the kitchen: Here you can see the two green samples as well as a TINY bit of the Toasted Cashew I tried to sample peeking through Backsplash details (there is some splattering from cooking, that's not the tile) Close up of the tile in the kitchen (the grout will be cleaned when we move in so it'll lighten up a bit, the tile that will be installed in the dining room and living room will be similar in color to the lighter tile in the dividing strip shown here) Looking into the kitchen from the DR Someone requested a photo of the view from the back of the kitchen looking out to the DR -- pardon my lovely SIL, she was rinsing paint from her hands and the mini rollers, and my hand wasn't very steady here My mom suggested I take advantage of the side of the island shown in the above photo and turn it outward towards the DR. She also mentioned the idea of painting the island as some suggested here. I really like that idea! Hope this helps you all more than the previous photos did....See MoreHelp w/ kitchen cabinets
Comments (1)Hi Patrick! If to be honest, we obsessed with those doors! You can do a fantastic refresh by adjusting the doors, changing backsplash & countertops, possibly light fixtures (that we can't see) and some pulls and you get a modern mid century cool vibe! We will define the doors as slab doors with rounded edges, however, it is pretty unique so we are not sure you'll find a lot like this. Consider change the curtains to some wood blinds (similar to the beautiful butcher block you've got there). Here's our pick for possible pulls: Brass pulls Twig brass pulls Matte black arch Good luck! Comments (63)@Beth, first thanks for all your tips and ideas on the hardware. Good idea to mark them out and good to know that 4" is the min (they sell 3 and 3.5, which are cheaper, so I wondered if that would work. thanks) I know; You had a lot of good ideas on painting. Thank you. I am still waffling on what to do. I guess my concerns w/ the painted floors are the effort to do it and the maintenance (I have wear patterns on my front porch and the kitchen gets more traffic). Plus I want to limit my exposure to chemicals. FWIW, this morning I emailed my house painter to check his schedule if I choose to have him repaint the cabs. (he's a much better painter than I am) Painting would allow me to fix the placement of the holes on some of the cabs (currently, most of the cabs do not have holes). I could also put a cab to the left of the stove. And I made an appt next week with the interior designer who was going to help me pick finish materials etc with the big remodel....to get his opinion of a scaled-down remodel. i.e. how to make this house a better version of what it is without spending a ton of money since I may move in a few years....thanks for all your help! I don't want this to be all about $$$, but everything is so $$$ and I hate the idea of investing a lot of excessive $ that I won't get when I sell. (when my former realtor came over this summer, she kept saying "do what *you* want; do what makes you happy; you don't need to do anything to fix this house to sell it" etc). So I guess my dilemma: what can make it more live-able for me for the next few years. (but possibly longer? who knows?)...See MoreKatie
