Canadian hybrid spinosissima roses
Comments (30)Those of you interested in exchanging roses between the U.S. and Canada will find the process straightforward. I send at least two shipments a year south and receive at least two a year in return. No import permit is required for either direction. Canadians need to obtain a Phytosanitary Certificate from their local CFIA Office by appearing there with completely clean (no dirt or debris) bare root plants to be inspected. An application form for inspection can be obtained on-line and faxed/emailed to the local CFIA and an appointment made for the inspection. In Alberta I pay a total of $12.50. The roses are then boxed and mailed via Canada Post and get to wherever in the U.S. in approximately 10 to 12 days. Don't forget to put the Phytosanitary Certificate in an envelope and tape it to the outside of the box. Postage for a box approx. 8" x 10" x 22" is around $40.00. The reverse process is carried out by those in the U.S. shipping to Canada. Hopes this helps. Email me direct if you'd like more detail....See MoreDo you recognize this lady?
Comments (12)"Cabbage rose" was first used to describe the Centifolias, then later the term was applied to some Hybrid Perpetuals which had a similar flower form. I think the term continued to be used (if rather incorrectly) to describe almost any many-petaled rose with the old flower shape (as opposed to the high-centered shape epitomized by Hybrid Teas and some of the later old Teas). If you saw flowers that late in the season, it's not a Centifolia -- but that's apparent by looking at the pics, anyway. To my eye, it looks rather Tea-ish, which could mean it's actually a Tea, or a Hybrid Perpetual (or Bourbon) with Tea breeding, or an early Hybrid Tea. I'm hoping that more Tea experts from CA will chime in with stronger opinions. :-) ~Christopher...See MoreB. 'Welaka' Rex Hybrid?
Comments (1)Apparently there was such a begonia but I can't find a picture of it and it may be like looking for a needle in a haystack. tech.groups.yah**.com/group/Begonias/message/29877 If it was in the Begonian then you can probably do a search on the CD's (provided you buy the 3 CD's available on the ABS site). They are in PDF format so searching is fairly easy....See MoreRecognize this peachy-orange David Austin?
Comments (28)Based on its blooming at the ends of the branch in in small clusters combined with the slight nodding, my guess would be Pat Austin. Lady of Shallot, seems to me, to be almost identical in many respects but My LoS puts out small lateral shoots off main cane and blooms on those. They both have shiny green leaves, and depending on humidity, etc, can both look just as healthy . I thought LoS was a new improved PA for a long time, but I find PA to bloom more frequently and be more fragrant. LoS lasts longer, but slower flushes. My suggestion would be to try both (!) and see which one you prefer. Theyre both lovely and about same size. Best, a...See MoreVaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley
