Question about sink base cabinets and Apron front/farm sinks
Comments (12)I have almost NO room at all under mine. The garbage disposal just about fills it. In fact, if you look closely on the left door you can see the black marks were it rubs against the inside of the door. The GC had to rout out some relief to get the door to close completely. I also had to carefully wrap all the hanging cords around the drain pipe to clear a bit of storage space above the pipe for the fertilizer and watering bottle for my plants. Still, I got the sink and the look I wanted that has the sink sitting forward, seemingly on the legs (that's what brought the disposal up against the door). Think about what you want under there. I could have gotten a smaller disposer (I compost so use it infrequently). And I don't use a lot of cleaners. I also don't have things under there like instant hot water or a soap dispenser -- just the guts of an airswitch. If you want those things think about where they'll all go. All in all I'm very happy with the look and the storage works for me. But you should be aware going in that it's sparce!...See MoreApron front sink - granite around front/sides - pics?

Comments (7)I am planning on getting it but have not yet done so as the cabinets are not yet in and I've not ordered any appliances or sink. I am looking at a few faucets and leaning toward the Newport Brass East Linear. So many of the ones I've held feel so flimsy in my hand and I want to avoid that, even if it means a splurge. I need the main faucet and also the filtered water spout faucet. I liked the Talis's by HG but they also felt flimsy and light….and the Axor by Starck, which feels sturdy has a price that is out of sight. Ditto the Waterstone and of course, the gorgeous museum-worthy Sonoma Forge fixtures! I've not been able to hold the Solna or ARtesso by Brizo but liked their looks in the catalog. Trying to decide now on finish for kitchen facuet and think I will go with PChrome. Lovely woman in the Hansgrohe showroom recommended that over the stainless ones; she says she has to clean them all very often for display and that the PC is much easier to clean that the steel finishes. I do like PN but worried that it will require too much upkeep in a kitchen and that it will not match cabinet hardware…love to hear thoughts on that issue….seems that PC is much easier to find in cabinet hardware than polished nickel. At lest I think so..have not gotten up to the hardware yet. All but decided to go with black finishes in bathroom fixtures. Too bad Dornbracht is out of my range here because the Tara is a classic. But California Faucets have a vast array of finishes and a good reputation, it appears. Sorry I rambled here…too much info! I've not posted in a long time as dealing with medical issues so I guess I had pent up need to chatter!!...See MoreReplace Kohler Apron front with stainless steel?
Comments (8)Joe, that is a great question. The first thing to look at is the country of origin! Most stainless sinks are made in China, even many of Kohler sinks. A former customer sent me a photo of a Kohler Stages sink that was still in the box and it was already rusted. If you do some research, you will find that stainless that comes from China, or sinks built in China, have more defects that sinks built in the US or Canada or Europe. Apron front sinks, made of stainless, should be 16 gauge. A thinner gauge (18 gauge), in my opinion, is not appropriate. I was mistakenly shipped a batch of stainless that was made in China. We asked for it to be returned. Before it was picked up, we inspected a sheet and noticed minor imperfections. The long term result of using Chinese materials is quite suspect....See MoreHelen
