I like to play the really large jackpots too. I know the odds but it's fun and I only spend $20 once a year or so on it.

I love to imagine all the good you can do with that kind of money, but then I imagine all the people and organizations soliciting for a bit of it. You'd have to set up a foundation, I suppose, right? I don't think I could handle it! Just give me enough for a secure retirement, and I'll be fine.

I'd set up a foundation for sure. I'd have my biological brother and sister be on the ad board.

We are not a lottery state, but are close to a couple, and we will be traveling thru one this Friday. So yes, we’ll probably buy a couple. We spend maybe $20-40 a year when it gets larger. It does get a bit fun to imagine winning. But we too would take care of others as well as ourselves if we won.

I need to buy a ticket tomorrow! This would work for me - could then hire an attendant to help me so I could once again travel. And tons and tons of other help. As one ages, help is what it's all about!

As a former financial advisor, I don't buy lottery tickets, as the house always gets its percentage.

I figure that taking a chance when there's a big prize is less wise - for 50 times as many tickets sold for this 860+ million gives me about one tenth the possibility of winning, remote in both cases, as if I buy one of 5 million tickets on one for 50 million. That extra 800 and some million potential win isn't worth the vastly increased probability that I'll win, as is usually the case, ...

We have/had a group at the office that played the PowerBall weekly for years - but most members have dropped out, leaving just the two of us now. We don't usually play MegaMillions but we both bought tickets for yesterday's drawing and will probably do the same for the next one. It is just for fun and the thought of actually winning that kind of money scares me! But, if I won just a small portion, that would make me happy.

Like most people, I only play when the odds are the worst! Although as I recall the odds are always the same because there are a finite number of combinations. I guess the difference is whether you have to share it with other winners. Whatever.

DH made me buy a ticket. With my luck, I'll win. Dang!

I don't play, but DH will buy a few tickets when it gets big. We figure we could be perfectly happy with some teeny tiny little sum. Maybe a million. Yeah, that would be fine.

What the lottery needs to do is break up the huge jackpots like this one... say a bunch of $1 million and $10 million prizes. Give more people a chance to win. Nobody needs $800 million

I know the government takes 1/2 but that’s still more than I could spend in my remaining lifetime. I would divide it between my kids & charity.

Won't be "lucky" - I don't buy!

But one-one hundredth the number of tickets on a 5 million jackpot would be more attractive to me, for I'd have a hundred times better chance of winning ... and would be almost as happy with 5 mill as with about an 886 mill win.

You can move <$10,000 (Canada equivalent) at a time without declaring it. My last visit to Canada was in September and I did play the lottery. Won $5. Enough to buy a gallon of milk, in Canada.

Anytime you cross the border, you must declare any currency or monetary instruments you have valued at Can$10,000 or more. This amount includes Canadian or foreign currency or a combination of both. ... There are no restrictions on the amount of money you can bring into or take out of Canada, nor is it illegal to do so.
