Sink options-- advice please
Comments (3)It's so funny, I was about to post an earlier thread in which someone put a photo of their spectacular ss apronfront sink- and low and behold, it happens to be the sink of gglks! I'll put the thread in below, gglks, you have an amazing kitchen- love the window right to the sink! I'm glad you put this in, because I was tossing around similar ideas/ concerns. We went to dinner at a friend's house that has a white sink (I don't know the exact material) that is stained with part of the enamel off of it. Before thinking of re-doing our kitchen, I never really noticed, but I don't want to put in a sink that can't deal with the heavy traffic of our family. We have three small children and we aren't easy on anything. But, how to do that and keep with the look of an older house? I'll definitly be watching this thread to see what others say! Thanks for posting... Here is a link that might be useful: Fabulous sink!...See MoreAppliance/Sink Layout Advice, please!!
Comments (36)Meant to add "what remodelfla said." That's a lay-out similar to what I'm planning when we remodel. Right now I'm leaning towards adding a prep sink to the island (sure would have come in handy at Thanksgiving) but I also like the idea of having my relatively small island free and clear of obstructions. I also like Buehl's plan but I didn't realize you were short on wall there. But definitely lose that one island stool as she suggests. 44" is not enough clearance between two seating areas, IMO. One more thought. Have you considered a corner sink? You'd need to shift your cooktop down a bit but this set-up might be a possibility for you. Put the DW next to the fridge, than a set of drawers or garbage pull-out or ? between DW and corner sink. I suggest this in case you are tight on space to put the DW between fridge and sink (I can't tell by your drawing above) and don't like the idea of a sink off-center from the window. It would be similar to lucretzia's kitchen set: (see more of her lovely kitchen here or this one featured at Kelly Morisseau's blog, Kitchen Sync. Both of the above have corner windows, which you don't have, but hopefully they will give you additional ideas for your kitchen....See MoreNeed Advice on Pendant over Kitchen Sink
Comments (3)The kitchen space hasn't been created yet because we don't have the building permit yet because we need a zoning variance but can't get that till we go to the zoning board meeting in a few weeks and all of this has put us about 7 weeks behind and a few thousand more in cost. Gaaa. So while it would be nice to actually try out some things in the actual space, we're doing the next best thing ... our bathroom has a double window w/walls on either side and the space is very close in size to the sink area that will be in the kitchen. The paper shades weren't quite doing it so I hunted around in the basement and found a 10" (across the bottom) shade and a 13" (across the bottom shade) that we alternately tacked up on a ribbon into the ceiling in our bathroom. We've gotten input from several people, including the folks at Schoolhouse Electric, to go with the 10". While I don't think we'd have a problem with it I do think we'll always be like "ahhh, should have gone just a tad bigger". Since it is the only fixture in the kitchen (the rest is recessed and under-cabinet lighting) we're leaning towards the 12", making it more of a statement piece. Thanks for the replies, greatly appreciate the input!...See MoreKitchen sink issue! Need some advice...
Comments (5)Have you double checked the front-to-back distance of the countertops you bought? I would double check this to make sure they will fit your base cabinets in your kitchen. The reason I ask is that it sounds like the sink the size you need might be more of a bathroom vanity sink size? If these are bathroom vanity marble slabs they may only be 21 inch, and your kitchen cabinets might need 24 inch slabs....See Morezoey75
