Comments (2)The vinyl covered ones you are referring to are control joints rather than expansion joints. The expansion joints run full depth and are filled with mastic over a foam filler strip. Control joints are only about 1/2" deep and create a line along which the concrete can crack without it becoming unsightly. I don't know why they use the vinyl strips over control joints on pool decks, control joints can be just a simple tooled joint or sawcut joint as you see in sidewalks. I guess they think it has a more finished look. If you don't like them I'm sure you can ask the PB to just do a tooled joint and not use the strips....See MoreCeiling/wall joint expansion and contraction
Comments (6)Hi, I live in Ca. I had a problem with the moulding on the kitchen cabinets. The moulding was nailed to the cabinets and showed a gap at the ceiling. I found on the internet that truss cielings and roofs expand at different rates than stud walls. My cure for the ceiling gap was to replace the moulding and secure the new moulding to the cieling and let it float on the cabinet. The problem was solved. It may Work for you. Comments (3)Looks like the tool they used is to manage cracks. There should be a full expansion joint. This can easily be fixed by cutting the joint, then sealing it with a foam backer and self leveling crack caulking....See Moreblondelle
