Comments (47)>> Its rosea rhodeola, Herbalbetty was right. It's being tried grown experimentally in both northern Canada and the Carolinas according to Science News. Yup. One brand I bought is grown in Canada. Relatives in Scandinavia grew it (or a related plant from that genus) as an ornamental -- they had no idea it might be good for anything other than looking pretty. And they didn't want me to dig it up to smell the roots. :)...See MoreY'all need some fun- 2 brutal questions
Comments (24)Don't even talk about fur thongs! I did wear a fur SARONG to a party once. *grin* The tree thing has been covered, so I'll touch the second one. Kev is too modest to do so. I think we as Americans have too many hangups about the naked human body. Even more so with the naked male human body. I mean..look at nudity in films..it's mostly female. In some R rated films, a woman's who-ha is in plain sight, but I challenge you to find a full frontal scene where a man is involved (I think of Julian Sands in Warlock or that other cute guy in 28 Days Later). If you feel sexy and comfortable, that's really all that matters. How can guilt come from something so natural..I just don't understand.. Clint...See MoreSeeking fun laundry cab color
Comments (14)Hi everyone! Thanks so much again! I got around to reconsidering hawthorne today and I think it's the winner. It just looked buttery in comparison to gold finch (which is quite green) but on its own it looks nice, liveable, and retro. Annie, what beautiful photos! I totally hear you all on the white. For some reason I just keep thinking I want those colorful cabs, possibly because I didn't get them in the kitchen. But I agree, I am lazy and white on permanent things is the sensible choice. Tea cats and Caroline, thanks so much for the idea for adding bright accessories! I hadn't thought of a window treatment but of course I should add one. Lascatx, those photos are stunning! I too have a very hard time with yellows, but also find blues challenging. I think it's all those grey, stormy, Nova Scotia days that make me want a bit of sunshine on the inside. Red lover, thanks so much for the comment on my kitchen!! Just a few little touches to go before I post a reveal over on kitchens. The tiles are 3.75" x 7.5". I wanted 8" square and husband wanted subway, so this was a bit of a compromise. Mtn, you're right about the door, in fact, it has three! This laundry is where my old kitchen was, right off the front door. So we added a few doors and a wall to close it off. Here's a before photo: Here's a photo with the hawthorne to the left of the sink, I'll post another when dh gets around to painting... Comments (8)Thanks for all the great responses! I appreciate you all taking the time to chime in. Oakleyok, the child's chair belonged to my DH's grandparents -the matching "adult chair" resides with his uncle -- no one sits on the little chair, but we like having it on display Rosie, I will work on a floor plan. I have been busy with other things but decided I need to do this so we are ready to entertain this fall. We rarely if ever actually use the fireplace (maybe 3 times in the 25 years we have lived here). You stated it beautifully "You need a room that invites people in and allows them to circulate freely and then find a seat that fits them and, in a few cases, that can be turned to join a conversation or face a speaker, like that nice scroll-arm chair. " My question is how to create a "room that invites people in". Ellendi, we do have a love seat and sofa now because that's what we had when we lived in New York -- 2 sofas sound appealing to me because we can always use more seating -- when you say to line up the sofas with the fireplace, I assume you mean perpendicular to the fireplace and not parallel -is that right? -the chairs are just near the round table because we brought the table from NYC and then my MIL gave us those chairs when she downsized -- we love the china cabinet -we bought it when we were first married and lived in London - it might fit in our dining room but unfortunately that it is the one room in the house that is small -we do sometimes bring in dining room chairs for our meetings and parties Teacats -thanks for the advice about how to use our existing furniture -our sofa is shot, so we will be replacing that and probably the love seat at the same time --it is an excellent point about covering up the air grate -i will have to find something that can be in front of it without blocking airflow -maybe a table with slim bench chairs underneath -and i like the idea of a tall mirror over the fireplace Camlan -i love your suggestion of moving our current furniture around to figure out what works for us -we do not use our dining room much as we have a breakfast room connected to the kitchen where we usually eat -we never go to the dining room from the entry way -and i don't think our friends do so often either One other point -- we are willing to consider a different rug - I like this rug a lot (it has some of Omar Khayyam's Rubiat on it) -but DH thinks we should get something more modern -and we could, of course, get a different size Thanks again!...See Morehighdesertowl
