What is this growing in my lawn
Comments (2)Stink horn! AKA Devil's Dipstick. And yes, they look remarkably phallic. It's growing on decaying organic material (which is a good thing) and considered harmless, although eating them is not recommended. While they tend to grow in damp conditions, I've seen them manage on far less water than I would have imagined they could. If they bother you, kick them over. The mushroom will desiccate in a few hours of sunlight and disappear quickly. Here is a link that might be useful: Orange stinkhorn mushroom...See MoreThis is growing in my lawn?
Comments (6)Baby trees of some type. Turn upwind & look up to try to find the mama. Someone might recognize it with a clear pic of a single leaf (the whole compound leaf, not an individual leaflet.) I'd look at Ailanthus & Sumac if doing an image-search comparison, looking particularly at how/where the leaflets attach to the petiole....See MorePlant Growing in my lawn
Comments (15)I don't recognize this exact plant?, tree? but, from it's leaves shape and colors could it be a species of Hickory? Anyone around you have Hickory? Although, the tree it came from doesn't actually have to be anywhere near you either. By any chance, do you get a lot of animals or birds visiting your yard at all? I've read, probably on this site, that animal and bird droppings can cause saplings and some other plants and wild flowers like poppy, sunflower and corn, for example, to grow due to what the animals or bird(s) were fed or ate. I was told that most of the weeds were transfers and most likely caused by animal and or bird droppings. Maybe you've had one tree chewin' Racoon, Squirrel, or flock of birds that chewed some stuff, flew by, than left some non-returnable "gifts" on your lawn. BTW, If stores by you carry it, don't buy Spectracide brand lawn weed killer! It's meant to "kill just the weeds on a lawn within 8 hours", and falsely claims "will not hurt most grasses" *except that it says it "WILL brown Bermuda and will kill St Augustine, carpetgrass, bentgrass, centipede and most warm weather grass types"). That stuff totally killed a few spots of my KBG/Rye/Fescue mixed lawn when I lightly sprayed down a lousy clover patch that sprouted and some Mulberry saplings that grew overnight. P.S., The spray did kill the clover but, didn't kill the Mulberries....See Morewhat is this growing in my lawn
