Question about storing worms overnight
Comments (6)LOL, they're in the house on the kitchen ledge in approx. 78 deg. temp. right now. Yes, it's warm in here. This was my first time to separate and divide my original 1 lb. and came out with about 2 lbs. This pound was bought at the end of May. I wasn't impressed with the size of them though. Many were juvies, and much more were of reproduction age and there were cocoons. I had to pull from my other bin to get more worms in the cans. I did include some of their own VC as well as some new bedding....See MoreButtermilk Oatmeal Pancakes
Comments (11)Those pancakes look delicious, Ann. I just had a yogurt & a slice of cheese for breakfast. Pancakes would have been better! I tend to make oatmeal pancakes mostly in the fall for some reason? We like them with a couple grates of fresh nutmeg & topped with sauteed apple slices and a side of ham. Annie, when our kids were at home they loved leftover oatmeal pancakes rolled with peanut butter/jelly. Now, my grandkids have taken over the leftovers. My recipe is basically the same as Ann's. For those of you who enjoy working with yeast...oatmeal pancakes are also delicious raised with yeast. I take a 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of yeast, 1/2 cup of warm buttermilk, & 2-3 tablespoons of flour...mix well & let sit for 30 minutes. Proceed as normal for pancakes, including BP, but remember you've already used 1/2 cup of the liquid & a bit of flour so reduce those amounts. After mixing, I let the batter sit for another 15 minutes. The pancakes are light as air. /tricia...See MoreQuestion: Overnight Sleeping/Bed Issue
Comments (8)It might work better if she doesn't need permission. I have one dog who wanted to sleep on the bed from the time we got her but I wouldn't allow it and would put her back in her own bed and she got used to that. But over time she would sneak up there during the night at times (usually only if it was cold) so I would let her stay up there because I knew she just wanted a bit of body warmth. She has to go to sleep in her own bed and if she gets up on our bed during the night that's ok, and most of the time we don't realise she's in bed with us until the morning but it's not even a nightly thing. I just think if you're going to let her up there during the night then just let her do it without permission because she has to wake you up for that, but just make her go to her own bed at the beginning of the night until you fall asleep....See MoreAncient Grain & Super Seed Oatmeal
Comments (19)Jasdip I had my first "Red River" on a high school canoe trip to the Boundary Waters. I can still find it every so often here in the Twin Cities of MN. Love it! Just want to add that I've made my own milk kefir for 4 years now. I bought the grains locally off Craigslist and they've been superior all these years. It is kind of like a sourdough starter--just keep reusing the living organism. Plunk the little ball of it in fresh milk; let it sit at room temp for a couple days (I like mine thick and frothy, so it sometimes sits 3-4 days), refrigerate until cold. I often pour a glass, mix in ground flaxseed, plain yogurt, and berries and eat it with a spoon. It makes a satisfying breakfast. It is as essential to me as coffee in the morning! In case you've tried the bottled kefir in the store, the homemade really doesn't taste anything like it....See Morelizbeth-gardener
