I like modern/classic style. Recently bought a house so I'm starting from scratch. This table is the first and only piece of furniture we've bought so far. The difference between closed and open burners actually has to do with cleaning. The closed have a more or less continuous top that traps stuff -- you pick up the grates and the burner ring and clean way. Open burners have a tray below the burner assembly that slides out -- stuff falls through and you pull the tray out to clean. The difference in performance has to do with the way the burners are shaped, how many individual gas jets are in them, and the btu output and how efficiently the gas delivery system works. The open burner marketers would have you believe (and state it as fact) that sealed are inferior or less powerful but that's not true. It depends on the stove. Also, the grate style is very important and often overlooked. For me, it's far more important to have burners that adjust well high to low -- i.e. control. The appliance cowboys like the high-powered ranges (Blue Star and the new Capital which isn't off the assembly line yet.) These have upwards of 20,000 btus. Wolf's higest is 16 or 17000 It depends on how you cook and what you want in a stove. But there are many, many more choices than Wolf, Blue Star and Capital. There is the AGA Pro with dual fuel -- the largest electric oven on the market at an all-gas price. There is American Range which owners love. Then there is Viking, Dacor, Thermador and GE Monogram gas ranges and the Euro brands with a different styling plus more conventional Bosch and Electrolux. The appliance forum favors open ranges and heaven help someone who doesn't want more power. That's fine if you're a hobby cook or there's no Chinese take out within 50 miles but it's really not essential. It's also wise to check out the reputation on certain brands as some are notoriously repair prone with problematic service. Researching and understanding all the variations and brands is like getting a Masters if you go all out. But some people just want a nice stove.

I agree with the finish but wouldn't get knobs. I have knobs on one of my vanity's and it drives me crazy. The cord on the hairdryer gets caught on it constantly. It also is the perfect height to get stuck on belt loops. Sounds dumb bit it happens more than you'd think! I have bin or cup pulls on my drawers in the kitchen & I like them. I'd do a smooth pull in the bathroom. Not sure if a bin pull would look right in a bathroom.

oh I looked into slate,porcelain, ceramics, you name it. Loved slate (the solid darker one) etc. My main concern was with the colors. Given the existing/known colors are decided upon . Darker slate(and travertine)-the one I like the most-will it be enough contrast with dark cherry island? Lighter-will it work ok with the countertop? Should be fairly warm colored too. I don't see grey here. Something like Linden looks like it'll work. The main point though-one goes, takes samples, starts comparing. It's hard to see materials on the internet.. (choosing flooring was one of the most tiresome thing as far as I remember. That, and countertops.) I also think the floor -if it mimics stone or is stone-shouldn't be too busy as the countertop gets to be busy already. Then you have two busy stones If it doesn't mimic stone but has pattern in how it's laid-I'd worry about how to clean it, but less about busy-ness..somehow spells farmhouse to me, more than busy countertops.. Something put together as longer, brick reminding tiles on diagonal would be cool. I see more uniform, darker tiles if going for that look. Slate or porcelain, doesn't matter as long as it's right color. But. One can't get everything I guess. I love the idea of soapstone but probably more upkeep? But they look amazing, and very true to farmhouse feel.
