help with foyer rug or rugs and door color
Comments (55)Okay, here we go... Back at it. - I tried 4x6 at front door as solo mat... okay, but a little too big IMO. My neighbor likes this size. I don't. This rug is not appealing to me either. just trying it for size. - a 4x6 looks weird in between the bench and the console. It just reaches the furniture. No wood showing in front of furniture and rug can't reach under furniture. so that's out. I was hoping for this arrangement to keep price down, but that never seems to work for me - LOL! - a 5x8 in the long part under the furniture is so-so. This one is actually 5'3"x7'6". I think my foyer is too small for this look, but it does have the potential to cozy things up. It's hard to visualize a final product with all these mis-matched patterns. This rug is actually going on the deck. Also with my new artwork, I think my color scheme has to change too. (Sorry, tribbix, portera et als, don't luv anymore.) Here is side by side of new color on wall and new 3x5 doormat rug (which claims to actually be 3 1/2 x 5 1/2.). This is in my shopping cart and I feel okay buying it online because it is NOT 100% polypropolene (outdoor). It is 50/50 with acrylic and says "plush pile" so it should be fine in that "too outdoorsy" respect I don't want. The deck rug looks like a deck rug in the wrong part of the house. ta da... What do you think? I hope the colors are true to my monitor. If I really love it, I can still look for it in a 5x8, but I really don't feel like paying the price of a non-outdoor 5x8 right now. I have a ton of new landscaping to do at my new place and I'm chomping at the bit to get into it as the weather is improving....See MoreFoyer mirror
Comments (33)Jen - Ha! Yeah, I'm all about visuals. It's much faster than using painters tape too. :) I'm pretty sure I could do something to the existing finish to change it up. I guess when it's something large I get all nervous and wonder if I could make it worse! Maybe I could dry brush a little black over the copper/gold to tone it down a bit. I always thought that color was somewhat garish. I liked it but I didn't. Mitch - Thanks for the suggestion! I like that mirror and the style is very similar to the one I have in my bathroom. Mcps - Thanks for the suggestion! I like the lines of the mirror. I'd love to find something old while out and about. Les - Here's a 5x7 mock up. I think the size fits the space much better but am still not sure what I think about it just because I already have so much carpet and it covers part of the vent. ? The vent style is raised but I could easily change it out to a flat one. I have this oval rug for an idea but it's way too small. Msrose - Thanks for posting those photos. I have that top one of Cattknap's saved. I especially love her Christmas ones with all the mercury and crackle glass. Did you see those? I like the look of plates around a mirror and have considered it before but wasn't sure how to go about it with the shape of the mirror. I have two different scenes of red and white plates. A saucer shown here. I'm open to any layout ideas....See MoreFoyer rug not sure if it is right
Comments (34)I wouldn't put a rug at the bottom of the stairs either. Why get wood floors if you can't see them? A couple of weeks ago we took up two long runners and we oohed and ahhed at the floor. It was so much prettier. The rug laid horizontally in front of the door would work as a door mat and for decoration. Mine is like that in our entryway. But you might want to use the darker rug because of dirty shoes....See MoreMirror above buffet in foyer............
Comments (21)Actually 27's tall would be fine as a table lamp too! My thinking for changing the shades to black and not cream or white is that when you do paint the walls a black shade more than likely would not conflict/compete with a new wall color - a black opaque shade is more neutral. Plus opaque shades would be more sublte esp if you put the lamp on a tabletop dimmer to set the mood. Isn't the dark area in you mirror black? That's why I think the black in the lamp would compliment it. Here's what I was thinking w/black shades and achieving something like this look. Here's another direction/style you could go in for a lamp used singly or in pairs: Here's a lamp site w/some unique lamps Lampstore.com Jim...See MoreKim M
