IÂve been wondering about the Temperpedics. I received a sample, and itÂs certainly cushy, but IÂm not sure I believe what they say about pressure points. Plus, I would think synthetic foam would not let the skin breathe. I find synthetic fabrics in things like socks or slippers make me perspire. I had several Dearfoams slippers and couldnÂt wear them for more than a few minutes. WouldnÂt foam in a mattress do the same thing? But maybe thatÂs just me.

I love my bed... I have a custom made mattress with individually wrapped inner coils and extra foam padding. It takes deep pocket sheets, and cost a bit more than your average mattress... I wouldn't trade it for the world. Both my husband and myself suffer with chronic back pain, and I also suffer with Lupus. My husband is disabled, and I'm partially disabled. I wake up every morning feeling as decent as can be expected, and I go to sleep at night feeling very comfortable. A dear friend of ours owns a mattress factory, and after learning the inside scoop on beds, I'm happy to have the bed I chose! The reality of mattresses are that 1. pillowtops are useless 2. there is no such thing as no-flip technology 3. cheap beds are usually refurbished, and you don't want to know how they're refurbished, trust me! I can't tell you what type of mattress you should buy... individual tastes differ... but I can tell you that doing a bit of research and paying a little bit more for a well-made bed is worth it! My bed cost roughly 2 grand, but it has a 15 year warranty and it's incredibly comfortable to sleep on. I flip the mattress about once every month.

Check out Kingsdown too. They have done a lot of research and been making mattresses for a long time. I think they may even still be made by hand, but I'm too tired to go check their site : ) They've got an online test to determine what number might be best for you. In-store, there's a pressure point test lying down. I got mine at Sleepy's who was also planning on bringing the SleepNumbers in. (Didn't care for Sleepy's, but the mattress business on the whole seems to be extremely competitive, vague, and even dishonest.) I realized just the other day that my shoulders never hurt anymore and I can sleep on my side again. When my back is bothering me, though, I'm not sure anything would help. There's no option to adjust the mattress for a situation like that (if it would even help) other than adjusting a pillow underneath. That works till the back feels better. This mattress is heaven for me, esp with a heated mattress pad : ) But undoubtedly others wouldn't like it at all (I chose soft but there are four levels). Everyone is unique and it's simply a personal thing. Ugh, mattress shopping is such a long and exhausting experience. Esp when you start from scratch trying to learn what's out there. And they are, unfortunately, a major long-term investment. One reason I think they are so ridiculously expensive is because of all the returns, which cut into profits. How many $2K, $3K, $4K mattresses can a store take back. It all gets passed back to us. So really do your homework and spend a lot of time on the mattresses, just as you are doing : ) What I'm saying and trying to discourage is decisions based on the return policy. Don't just try something because it can be returned -- be as sure as you can on your final decision. It takes a long time to reach that point and comparing mattresses store-to-store is difficult and vague. It also takes a while to adjust to a new mattress. I believe I was told at least 30 days. I bounced out of bed the next morning a new woman, literally, without even realizing at first (although did end up going through an adjustment period.) Do you all think this is a crazy idea? I spent most of the day rearranging the furniture. Took the 2 IKEA bookcases away from the dresser side and tried them as headboards--sort of. Thought I was on to something brilliant until I discovered/remembered that one is the older model which had slightly thicker sides and so stands about one inch higher than the . Argh! (I moved the beds closer to each other which my husband likes. Will likely look for 2 adjustable lamps.) I know we could go get another of the newer style, but I don't know about how far the beds stick out from the wall now. Not that we were using that middle space, though. P.S. Yes, all of our curtains hang too high. We need a handyman to adjust them as my husband and I are incapable of hanging anything correctly. (Especially when not all the draperies are exactly the same length.)
