Help Buying a new Mattress
Comments (5)Generally, sleeping on your stomach can make you susceptibe to back pain because it interferes with the normal S-curves of your spine. OTOH, if your mattress is older, it is probably worn. Ten years is about it for most brands. I had a nice plush mattress that I brought when we got married, but DH feels it is too soft for him, so it's in the guest room now. You really have to try them out and find what's best for you. I would not order anything online I haven't tried that specific brand. Like our salesperson said, one person could try a mattress and hate it, and one could try it and love it, and they're both right. Even Consumer Reports cannot make across-the-board recommendations since preferences are highly individualized. And do read the fine print on the return poliicies. We bought Macy's Memoryworks memoryfoam in firm, and we love it. We do not "sink" as much as a typical memory foam. It's harder to find a firmer mattress if you want that. Macy's has a decent selection of mattresses and they often go onsale, especially around holiday weekends. The memory foams do tend to get warm, so keep that in mind....See MoreBedroom / Bed Mattress - Simple foam is great I think Need help
Comments (6)We just bought one of those expensive foam mattresses. It does have the memory foam on the top and fused to the bottom layer of foam. We have a full size and it was on sale for $549. Free shipping. Thing came all rolled up and stuffed in a box and it was amazing to see it undo itself and settle down. We love it. We also saw them in box at Walmart. Not sure of the quality. There was a sample piece to look at. Was in the $200. price range. WE have had ours for a couple of weeks or so and every night it is a pleasure to get in bed. We are sleeping so much better. Some of the aches and pains are getting better. There is good support and yet it gives to accommodate hips and shoulders. The cover is just a heavy weight fabric with a LONG zipper on one side. I did buy a nice thick cotton mattress pad and that would really be all you needed for a cover. I bought the deep model, our mattress is 8 inch thick. The deeper model mattress pad, About $20.00 pulls under nicely with the elastic so it stays put. I was afraid it would slip around and it does not. So we are very pleased with what we are sleeping on. Chris...See MoreSleeping with Men(opause)... or not
Comments (30)I'm a decade past menopause (started early at 45) and still flashing, though not nearly as severe as it was for the first 7 or 8 years, I tried all the OTC stuff, nothing helped in the least, but will give the sea salt a try as I hadn't seen that. I read an article a month or so ago saying women who meno early have symptoms/flashes that last much longer than if they'd begun at a 'normal time', 10/15 years or more of this is not unusual (I really thought I was lucky being done with all the cycle stuff so early, hah! lol). We have always slept with a fan going all night so that helps, I also got one of those long hot/cold bead packs for backaches that you can either freeze or microwave, I kept it in the freezer and wrapped it around my head/neck when I laid down in bed (when flashing was nearly constant), it stayed quite cold for an hour or so and let me get to sleep but I also found putting it on my feet helped a lot too. I now understand why many women of our age wear their hair short, I don't think I look good in short hair but man there are times when I want a buzz cut right to my scalp, my hair is so thick and heavy and heat-holding that a sheep-shear is very tempting....See Morehelp choosing a mattress for a beach house
Comments (0)I need advice on choosing mattresses for a beach house for family & friends. Should I go for a cheap one, get one from an online provider or go for one of the major brands? Anyone have experience with Purple, Nolah, Idle Sleep? We have a Temperpedic mattress that I can't stand but my husband loves. I get too hot & he has back pain relief when he sleeps on it. Thanks for your help!...See Morejodik_gw
