We had our first killing frost last night

Comments (18)Most citrus based jellies will take a month or more to set up. I have seen this many times when I used to make marmalade with orange, tangerine, and clementines before I had to cut out the sugar. Give them some time and they should set. Sometimes just refrigeration will thicken a jelly if its very soft. As mentioned, a syrup can be served over ice cream waffles, pancakes, and any other uses, such as a glaze for ham or a cake....See MoreMade this last night Yum!
Comments (13)I'm sorry! I did take a pic with my phone. I had to email it to myself to post it. I served risotto and spaghetti squash. I wish someone would teach me to make spaghetti squash that doesn't crunch. Dcarch, sorry. I had no plans to make it yesterday. That was DH's choice. Only because I mentioned it! Then we went to Sam's Club, and it was 6:30 before I got started. I made him help. It's rare that I find a recipe that sounds good like that, and doesn't call for garlic, which you could probably add if you want, but it was a nice change to see one that didn't include with my garlic allergy! It is time consuming, but if you like to cook, that won't be a problem. I cook because I have to, and I was already tired with painful feet, so would have liked to have it quicker. The time consuming part is browning off the chicken a couple of pieces at a time, unless you have a huge skillet. I don't. But at least the chicken and risotto was finished at the same time! I made DH help. I gave him the jobs of cutting and pounding the chicken, then stirring the risotto. Mustangs, I'm glad you think I'm a good judge of how good it was! Rosesstink, I don't know. I copied and pasted the recipe as it was on face book. I picked up a 1# box of sliced mushrooms while I was at Sam's and probably used close to a 1/3 of it. Jasdip, I have made chicken marsala once. This was way easier! My bottle of Marsala doesn't say dry, but it doesn't taste real sweet. It's been a long time since I bought it and made the chicken marsala the first time I tried it, so I don't exactly remember. The price sticker on the bottle says, I think, $5.75 USD....See MoreAte my first salad last night...
Comments (6)Sharon, Yay! There's nothing wrong with microgreens. Here in our climate, I'd rather harvest lettuce and other salad greens using the cut-and-come again method instead of waiting weeks and weeks for them to get big and full-sized. It sounds like your garden is off to a great start! cochise, The wet soil is messing with my planting schedule too, and has been for weeks. I hate to complain about moisture because it generally is so rare, but it sure is easier to get planting done on time in dry years than in wet ones. I've filled up my raised beds and all the rest of the garden at grade level is pretty wet, so I guess my planting will slow down or almost completely halt for a little while until the soil can dry out more. With rain in our forecast beginning tonight and continuing for a few days, I don't see much planting in the immediate future. It seems like every time the grade level soil starts to dry out a little bit and I'm getting hopeful that I might get to plant something in it, then more rain falls and we're right back at the squishy, swampy stage again....See Morecolleenoz
