Comments (4)A helpful hint that I can't help give is that if you have the time, you should put dirt over each node of the vine, where the leaves come out from the vine, so that secondary roots will establish. I don't know exactly how helpful it is but I do it every day and it seems to be helping my vine alot. Especially since I see you all are in california and the low humidity evaporates a lot of the water before it gets to the end of the vine, these secondary roots closer to the tip can help establish healthier leaves and everything. I definately see my vine wilting less since it has established more roots, you never know we might have a heat wave like the rest of the country did later in the summer....See MoreNo blooming males to pollinate my female pumpkin flower
Comments (5)I don't know if it will work for you or not, but there were no usable male flowers open when my last female flower opened. I took one of the closed male flowers that were starting to "ripen" and getting ready to open and peeled the flower petals off of it. I rubbed it with my finger to be safe and some pollen came off even though it was not yet open. The best thing I can say to do if you're worried about it, is to just test it. Worse comes to worse you cut a male flower for nothing. Oh well, there will be more later. Or, if you don't want to do that, you can wait. Everyone else is right, there will be plenty of male and female flowers later. My watermelon plant did that. My female flowers opened first and started dying off. I know, it's odd and I couldn't figure out why. Anyways, the male flowers came a bit after that and I had lots of personal sized watermelon. Good luck to you and keep up hope!...See MoreLOOKING for: Pumpkin spice bars that are chewy and dense

Comments (0)I tasted the most delicious Pumpkin Spice Pistachio cookie bars at my volunteer job a couple of weeks ago. I would love the recipe, or something similar, for an upcoming fundraising bake sale. I hoped to get the recipe from the woman who brought the dessert, but I may not see her again very soon considering our non-fixed schedules. The bars were very tasty, sliced up nicely and didn't require frosting. I prefer unfrosted items to make packaging easier....See More- 8 years ago
