Y'all dead here? Sheesh wake up! I need your Vacation help
Comments (21)Hi Lis! I can't help with suggestions of where to go since I'm a west coaster. But I can completely and wholeheartedly agree with Laura and Gin. Take lots of xanax, valium or something similar. If you don't want to take it, slip it into the kids' juice. And start planning a quiet, private, child-free trip NOW for you and Carlos for after your family vacation. Trust me, you will need one. I'm speaking from experience here..................... We took a 14 year old and two 19 year olds to Maui last year. They weren't nearly as annoying as younger kids and I still ran out of xanax before the trip was over. Luckily for me, a lady that worked at one of the galleries I visited several times while we were there felt my pain. She very kindly dipped into her personal valium stash (she needed them to deal with all those pesky tourists) and shared with me. She was my personal savior from that point on. I personally believe that vacations with children aren't vacations at all. They are some sort of cosmic penance for past transgressions....See MoreWhen do you wake up?
Comments (28)I love sleeping. When I worked I was up by 6:45 to get to work by 8:30 (40 minute commute). Now that I am retired I get up anywhere between 7:30 and 10. Very rarely 10! The usual time is 8. Lately I have been sleeping like a rock. Last night I slept nine hours straight through. I usually have one potty break a night, but not last night. I love waking up and thinking that I can just take my time and roll over and snooze if I want to, especially in cold weather. My gosh, you all are early birds. What time to you go to bed in order to be up at 4:30?? I go to bed at 10:30 and read until 11:30....See MoreCat waking me up early on weekends
Comments (8)I agree, cats train people or try in novel ways. Water spray works well for undesirable behavior, as well as a firm NO. They usually understand that if followed by locking up in a separate room, basement or garage where they can do no harm and you can't hear them. Mine tried to wake me up at 6 after I started feeding her as soon as I got up. When I wanted to sleep later, she would fly onto the bed and howl, climb on my chest and breathe in my face. I stopped that by scolding her and no longer feeding her as soon as I get up. She's more patient now. When she wants something from me she gets on her honches and does patty cakes with her front feet. This is really hard to resist so she has trained me in her way but she is not that annoying any longer. She waits quietly until she sees me stir and gives me a vocal greeting and few happy scratches on her scratching board. Hope you can find a way to outsmart your kitty....See MoreDid you ever just wake up & suddenly have a different viewpoint?
Comments (26)Do you know of some friends in similar position with whom you might share housing? There are several advantages - there'd be shared chores, and if two can agree on how a chore should be done, sharing it is more fun than doing it alone. You'd eat better: more than tea and toast for lunch. Increased safety: if one falls or needs help, there's someone within earshot to help, and can triage it: we can look after it ... or we call a family member ... or we call "911" - right now! There's more intellectual stimulation than when living alone ... and some say that it may help to keep certain forms of Alzheimer's at bay ... for a while, at least. If there were several sharing, there'd be enough savings over living expenses separately as individuals that they could afford a part-time housekeeper. Two would work - three wouldn't, for two would become friends and the third would be somewhat socially isolated. Prior to starting, have a prospective sharer move in for a few days, or a week or two, to see how well the system might work ... and if it didn't look worthwhile, they could return home and make other plans. Had one been in a hospital for a while, and could be released, but not able to function alone for a while, and no person available to help out for a while at home, sometimes they are "bed blockers" in hosp. ... but in this situation the other house-sharer(s) could watch over them, and take care of the chores, until the person were back on her/his feet and able to share work again ... and if that were not going to be possible, other arrangements would need to be made, but there'd be some time to make them. Possibly some food for thought ... (better than tea and toast for lunch, maybe?). ole joyful...See Moreamykath
