They are going to have minds of their own. Could be the time change, weather change, etc.

When my kitties go through this phase, I get up, move them to the basement and shut the door.

And I say "You're going to the basement."

Do that for a couple of days.

Then try leaving them out. If they act up, say "I'm going to take you to the BASEMENT" and they get the message.

They still get wild and hairy too early sometimes, but I just repeat the above.

I feel so bad locking them in the basement but I only have to do it a couple of days. They're pretty smart.

I have yet to meet a cat who could tell the difference between Sat morning and Mon morning. My late sweetie Cecil did exactly what your little puss is doing. He would jump up on the dresser...not the one by the bed, but that was out of our reach and knock things off. When I cleared everything off the dresser, he would get up on his hind legs and play with the painting that hung over the dresser. Proves that cats are quite capeable of linear logic? I took the painting down as well.

Try playing with Puss really hard right before bedtime. If not, you have to keep her out of your room and not respond to her yowling...like the above post said, its not easy but eventually it will work.

This is how cats work, just shut the bedroom door at night if you want to sleep in. You can try to train her, but when a cat gets something in their minds that they want, it is like trying to stop a speeding train.

Cats train their people, not the other way around!

I agree, cats train people or try in novel ways. Water spray works well for undesirable behavior, as well as a firm NO. They usually understand that if followed by locking up in a separate room, basement or garage where they can do no harm and you can't hear them. Mine tried to wake me up at 6 after I started feeding her as soon as I got up. When I wanted to sleep later, she would fly onto the bed and howl, climb on my chest and breathe in my face. I stopped that by scolding her and no longer feeding her as soon as I get up. She's more patient now. When she wants something from me she gets on her honches and does patty cakes with her front feet. This is really hard to resist so she has trained me in her way but she is not that annoying any longer. She waits quietly until she sees me stir and gives me a vocal greeting and few happy scratches on her scratching board. Hope you can find a way to outsmart your kitty.

THanks for your responses. I tried the spraying her with a water bottle and she is just too smart- she would hide behind the curtains(where she couldn't get wet) and cry instead. Or she could go under the bed where I couldn't reach her and meow loudly. It's just strange that she will do this even after I've fed her. I can't figure out what it is that she wants.

Attention and TLC is what she wants :-) and of course, she wants it on HER TERMS :-)

Try several mornings to separate her to another room, and as you said, she's smart. She'll get it. My girls did.

i don't have cats but your post just tickled my funny bone. :)

i wake every morning, 7 days/week, at 4:30 a.m. to buckets rattling on the fence, 3 horses demanding to be fed. NOW! if, heaven forbid, i should decide to stay in bed till 5, my great dane girl will saunter over to the side of the bed, put her face RIGHT NEXT TO MINE and give me a sloppy kiss. try waking up to THAT! lol

My cat wakes me up at 06:00hrs each morning with military precision. He will scratch at the bedroom door until he opens it and will then cry at the foot of the bed. If that doesn't wake me up he will jump on me. I don't mind too much during the week, as that coincides with the time I have to get up anyway and is a handy backup in case of power failure, but at the weekend, especially if I was to have had a beer or sixteen the night before, interruptions at that hour may not be welcomed. I may have called my cat something rather short-lipped and fruity on those occasions. But he is a true friend who forgives my faults so I forgive him for waking me up.
