Waking up and so on..
Comments (11)It took me a minute to remember that you are in the Southern Hemisphere! Where else does one wait for summer. Seeing the itty bitty green leaves sprouting out on Pachy saundersii was great, and the flowers do announce spring. I loved seeing your photos and appreciate having the names. I don't recall every seeing a Kalanchoe rhombopilosa with this color. Thought it had odd colors...pink, green, blue, brown, grey? We went from 73 degrees to 99 degrees this week. Supposed to be 97 today and single digit humidity. The soil in the pots was dry. Got out the hose and misted everyone. I'll water tomorrow when the temp is supposed go down twenty degrees or so....See MoreProof that everything wakes up at its own schedule
Comments (10)Thanks everyone for the compliments. My Office has become the "dumping grounds" for plumerias which have become too big for my backyard. I root pruned some this year but none at the office as they were transplanted 2years ago into those 25 gallon pots and got a good pruning then. I figure I have two more years before they need a refresh. I goofed on the Rainbow but it seems to be fixing itself. I did remove a couple of tips further up which were shriveling up and the new growth from the leaf nodes has actually progressed further than the tips I left alone (food for thought). Maybe I'll get a couple of inflos from it this year. If not then next year will be a great year for it. I hope that cutting roots for you. Its a great specimen. Here is a picture of it from last year: Those 5 Celadines and Pinks on the roof are up there from March until December going on three years. They have to be watered 3-4 times per week during the summer but have never had any sun related problems. by May or June they have huge full leaves and inflos all over. So I think the leaves do a very good job of keeping things cool and since they are more mature they have thicker bark (my assumption but makes sense to me). I have 4 more Pinks and Celadines and one huge Jeannie Moragne on a lower balcony which faces south east so they get sun from about 8am until 1pm. The Jeannie has maybe 10 forming inflos on it and about as many leaves. The pinks and celadines are my recommendation for anyone wanting to a simple but still very attractive plumeria which will bloom (given the recommended conditions) almost without fail after the second year of rooting....See MoreDogs wake up so early!
Comments (10)Sometimes I actually thank my pup (a little terrier) for getting up at 8 or so. That's the earliest I can get up and function -- my working job starts in the afternoon. I find it amazing that I can take care of a few household things, walk the dog, fix her breakfast and sit down and read a chapter or two -- all before 11! My previous pup was a late sleeper, and we woke about 10. For the current one, if she is woken up by people or dogs outside, I call her to come back up on the bed, then I cuddle her so she can fall asleep again. Usually gives us at least 45 minutes more in bed -- and I love that cuddle time with her! (FORHGTV: Before I had my own dog, I dog-sat for a friend with at least 3 big dogs at a time. I did the same thing you did! They were used to going out really early -- between 6 and 7. Much too early for me! I let them out, then they knew they could either rest in their dog beds in the living room or go back upstairs to bed with me. I usually had at least 1 dog on the bed snoozing--because they really weren't allowed on the beds when their owners were home! They knew to take advantage of it --or me!)...See Moreearly morning wake up call
Comments (11)Wow that's a lot of them. Do you leave near wilderness area? One year we caught 8 of them and took them to county animal control. When we were proudly telling the AC officer about trapping so many, he suggested that providing food, even inside a trap, might be the reason we were catching so many. The animals had tagged our property as a food source rather than a danger zone. We stopped trapping for the next few weeks and we didn't notice any more clues of animal prowling. We've decided to trap sporadically rather than as 24/7 program....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
